Would a ported/polished intake manifold from a 2.0 1g fit on a 1.8?

I see some for sale on Ebay and I am interested in getting one. Also, what does gasket matched mean? Would I have to get a different gasket for it to fit or something?

Thanks:thumb:

a 2.0 intake will not fit the 1.8.
you can, however, use a 2.0 head on your 1.8, and then use the 2.0 intake and exahust many.
Gasket matching is a simple and easy to do process to help take out some iof the small restrictions...
for an example, we will use the flange where the intzke manifold attaches to the head...
1)buy a new intake gasket.
2) remove head and intake manifold.
3) Clean both
4) install the new gasket on the intake manifold and mark around the ports with a black sharpie marker.
5) install the new gasket on the head and mark around the ports with a black sharpie marker.
6) use a dremel or a power drill with a COURSE sanding drum to remove all of the metal inside of the mark on all of the ports. (do not remove the line yet.)
7) Switch to a super fine sanding drum and remove the rest of the metal all the way to the edge of the line.
Your ports on the intake and the ports on the head are now 100% the same size and will line up 100%.... no cross section overlap... no restriction.
When porting, you don't need to go very deep into the ports... just about an inch or so.
Good luck

a 2.0 head will fir the 1.8? how is that possible?

interesting, ill have to look into it, that would be cool, a dohc 1.8!

I was comparing the head pattern on each one, and it could very well fit. Anyonw have more knowledge, I need to know ASAP.

Thanks

seem feasable, but the 2.0 head bolts are bigger than the 1.8.

ill have to line up my 2.0 gasket on my 1.8 block to see if all holes line up.

how would u time the thing? what belt do u use? 1.8 has a distributor, 2.0 electronically controlled coil packs.

theres too many differences in the 2 engines to make it seem possible to work.

pics of this would be nice with your tutoral on how to do it.

I was wondering the same, TurboGraphX have you done this? I will definately try if it looks like I could port match everything.

Be something different other than just throwing in a 4G63....

Thanks

I have not done this myself because I have a 4G63, but I have a build list and directions somewhere. ( I'm trying to find them for you guys) :)

That would be awesome if you could frind that stuff!

Also do you know of any other tricks for the 1.8?

You seem to know alot about DSMs in general.

Thanks, Tim

I have a 1994 talon 1.8 and I was gonna try a head swap from a 94 elantra. It has a 1.8 DOHC. I am now going to buy a tsi so if anyone wants to buy it make me an offer i will include head and gasket set.

Why on earth would you waste your time trying to put a head from a 4G63 on your 1.8? The ammount of work involved in doing the swap would be utterly pointless to the gains you would get, It would just make more sense to buy something else, since dsm's are a dime a dozen.

wow, my thread got hijacked, LOL

anyway, I serioulsy doubt that any DOHC setup would work on the 1.8, as it would seriously screw up the timing. What timing belt would you use should you swap the head? what about the cam angle sensor? There are so many factors to consider beyond whether or not the head would fit...

possible, maybe (almost anything is with enough $), but it would take less money and work to get a turbo DSM and do some upgrades on that
