i was told that the only problem with putting a turbo on a 420a was the seats where the rings sit was easily cracked other than that i should have no problems after replacing the conecting rods push rods and the pistons and rings.... what do you guys think?????

The 420A does well under pressure. I have had mine turboed for 3 1/2 yrs and I have no problems. I also run 11psi daily for the past year and love it. I have heard however that the ring-lands on the pistons are the first to go. But if you do things correctly, it should last a while. My car now has 108,000 miles and has been turboed since 75,000 miles. Just richen the fuel mixture via S-AFC and you should be fine. I am planning on building my bottom end to run even more boost tho. Good luck.

if your are going turbo on the 420a. changing the pistons rings and rods.
Believ it or not the weakest part on our engine are the rods, and the ring seats. i recommend getting the Hahn stage 3 kit, because you get rods, pistons, the whole ball of wax .the only thing you will have to do is get the block punched out to .20 over. but if you get that you will be happy.

i wouldnt do it. theres a guy around here that put the stage 2 on his 420a, huge front mount and alot of other stuff and hes only runnin like 14.1

then your friend doesnt know how to drive a car. Im at a high 15 low 16 in my non turboed 420a and if I doubled the horsepwer Im sure I could get into the 13s

A stage II turbo and "alot of other stuff" and hes in the low 14s?
I didnt say anything about pushrods, the 420A doesnt have them.
I am not just guessing when I post replies, Ive done my homework on my engine and my car, and the last thing I want this guy to see is a post telling him to sell his car and buy a turbo model

I replied to the post and wasnt trying to insult anyone, but the guy with the stage II needs to practice more and become a better driver before upgrading further.

I dont want that guy who runs fairly slow times with a stage II to deter the original poster from getting the turbo kit, hence my retort

No need to tell me to STFU, posts of that nature only brood negative vibes, they dont provide any useful info and turn even the most informative threads into flame wars. Ease up a bit and try to be a little more friendly.

Heh, a little misread there...

Apology ;)

Anyway, there are 420A's with $5k into the engine trapping at 115mph. An RS is roughly $3-4K cheaper and insurance is usually a little less. So for roughly around the same price you can have a 115mph or a 90mph trap :)

But you all have to realize that when you do go turbo, the characteristics of your car completely change. You may know how to drive your car right now as a N/T but when you throw the turbo on, launching and keeping it in the boost are totally different stories. You essentially have to "re-learn" how to dribe your car. You will be faster, but you will still be ABLE to be faster when you re-learn the car.

ahh yes, my point exactly. I didnt ijmply that I bolt on the turbo and Im instantly driving the car optimally. If your going to take the time and money to turbo charge a 420a taking the time to learn your car again is a given.

Nined2tsi's post had a negative "aura" around it, and I want the original poster to know that turboing a 420a is the way to go. Its dollar for dollar cheaper then selling the NA and getting an GST/GSX.

I cant seem to muster the funds to do it, as soon as Im close something happens to put me back in the hole. So I do my best to assure those who CAN afford to do it, to do it!
