My '90 model 1.8l Eclipse threw a code 15 a few weeks back and I was wondering if anyone else had this issue in the past and if so, What did you do to resolve it? Any tips at all would be helpful...

Code 15 : Idle Speed Control Motor Position Sensor
So far I have removed the throttle body and thoroughly de-carboned and de-gunked it + reinstalled w/new gaskets, cleaned intake hose from throttle body to air filter, replaced air filter, fresh pcv... I gained a slight improvement in idle quality but even after resetting the computer my code comes back after a couple of minutes. I guess I may need to buy some parts now? :toobad:
Car is otherwise in excellent running condition, has 252,050k on the clock and counting... If I told you guys how many parts on this car were OEM and still working fine, you wouldn't believe it. Gotta love these DSM's :dsm:

Thanks for any help here!

You will have to replace the idle speed motor (ISC Motor) and i would defiantly replace it soon 1. because the ecu generaly never give a code when these go bad and 2 because if these short out it will fry your ecu (The brain of the car) out in a second ! these ISC motors are exspensive new and not alot of places carry them or can get them other than a dealer. ONLY a 90 isc motor or a 90 throttle body will work, 91-94 are diferent and will not work at all. thats where people get messed up because they think 90-94 are the same BUT there NOT. just thought id let u know so u don't make that mistake :thumb:

Thanks for the help 1.8laser90. I appreciate your time. :thumb:

I hope like heck this thing does not cause problems with my computer in the car. '90 model parts/cars are rare around here and finding a good one on ebay is a big gamble at best... Have you had this issue on your 1.8l allready? The manual says that the code 15 is specific to the 1.8l and help with these models is hard to find at times. I guess that you knew that though as you have a 1.8l yourself.

I got a spare '90 model 2.0l NT complete throttle body in the garage... Maybe I could upgrade? Any ideas? :dsm:

Just updating this thread in case anyone is using the search button for a code 15...

I have not yet fixed the ISC Motor and still intermittently get the CEL for it but have not really had any problems driving the car other than a crappy idle when cold.

It has been 8 or 9 mos. now and this problem has done NOTHING to the computer in the car. The computer is still working fine and I doubt very seriously that an ISC motor going bad will 'kill it'. This car still gets me to work every day with no problems other than the idle being somewhat low when the car is really cold. :dsm:

This DSM definitely will take a beating and keep right on going! :rocks:

Hope this helps someone. :thumb:
