Intake on 1.8

I purchased an air intake off Ebay (the ones for the 2.0 NT fit) and put my air flow sensor inside the K+N that came with the kit and then clamped the whole thing to the nice shiny air intake pipe thing.

Its runnning an open air filter with the Air-flow sensor inside. Make sure you get the K+N speciafically for our car, as Im not sure if those "universal" air filters will allow you to put the air sensor inside (though they might). I'll post a pic of mine later if I can find my camera :D

ohh thats a good idea but i wouldn;t think that thign could fit? and is there a noticable incerease of power do you think?

Yeah, it fits, just make sure you get a K+N air filter. There isnt a huge increase in power, but it seems to pick up a little better. I recommened tuning your 1.8 up with some NGKs and run seafoam through the engine. (change plugs after running seafoam as it fouls the plugs, I found that out the hard way). That way, you can get maximum potential out of your air intake.

After taking these steps (I also changed plug wires, rotor and distributor cap) I noticed a good increase in power, my 1.8 also seemed to run a little smoother. Also if you rev the engine from under the hood youll hear the air being sucked in, which is kinda cool

If you have any other questions about the 1.8, feel free to ask...if I cant help you there are tons of people on this board that will :thumb:

thanks for the tips, and is there anything else i can do to get some more power outta this thing? and what is seafoam?

id recomend getting a catback with hi flow cat, this is a very good upgrade and should be done if you plan on getting alittle more power from it, and any 2.0 should bolt up without any probs. i've heard of seafoam before heard it works great, but can't find it anywhere..... its a foam type stuff u put in threw the pcv vavle hoses that goes into the intake and it sucks it done and cleans the injectors and all that out, let me know where i can find some of this at.. :thumb:

I managed to find seafoam at my local Advance Auto parts, but I heard it isnt available everywhere. I ran mine through the brake booster hose....drive around until you get to operation temp, then disconnect the brake booster hose and put the hose in the can with the car running. It will sound like your engine is going to die, but it wont. Mine started to idle at like 2000 RPMs too, but let it suck up the whole can. Shut it off and let it sit for like 15 minutes, then start her back up. Smoke will blow out the exhaust like crazy. (I had a freakin cloud behind my car) Take it for a good drive to get all the junk out. Change the plugs (I waited till the next day). Make sure you reconnect the brake booster before you take it for a drive too!

Running seafoam is a little scary if youve never done it before, but it does work. :D

Note: you can also put it in your gas tank and oil, but Ive never done either

was it this one ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&tc=photo&item=7918100521&category=38634

Yeah man, that one should work, as long as the Mass Air sensor fits in the filter (its one of those universal filters, so Im not sure). Other than that, that one will fit, look spiffy, and add some HP

:thumb:

The mas Sensor will NOT fit in that filter. I bought the same exact intake and it works great besides the filter being worthless. You can sell the filter to someone for probably 20 bucks or so, then just go out and get an upgraded stock size filter from you autoparts store. Remove the aircan and use the clips to clip the filter right onto the top half of the aircan( so the mas is still inside the filter) you may need to use a zip tie or two to keep it tight. Heres what it looks like when its all done. ( this is on my 2.0 but it should work just the same for you)
