You are correct about the Journal bearing units. The ball bearing units have had far less failures in relation. The BB failures are all user error as far as i can tell. The JB units have the most problems there was a large discussion about PTE modifying the Garrett shaft to fit their journal bearings and that is the cause of failure. although PTE blames Garrett, PTE has not ever once sent Garrett a failed unit for inspection. Garrett believes their failures are due to modification of their CHRA and or turbine shaft. Give me a min to find the article.
