NO! a gasket is required. Do not cheap out on something that important. There's quite a bit of vendors on here that have it and can be shipped to you in a couple of days:thumb:

Go to your local parts store and ask for, Felpro TCS45565-1. It is stocked at most parts stores or available the next day. IT includes all the gaskets and seals for the oil pump. IT is like 8 bucks.

not to hijack this thread or anything, but I have a new rebuild with a new front case / pump & new oil filter housing, new gaskets used everywhere all with proper torque specs and for some reason I have a small oil leak what appears to be the front case crakshaft seal, only when running and when the oil gets warm..

how could this happen  Oil should be used around the seal before installation correct? like I said all new gaskets where used but it's hard to belive it came bad from the factory.

It's possible that you damaged the seal when putting the pump on. You could have rolled the spring out of it.

Same thing happened to me, cam shaft seal pushed out enough to just dump oil when the car rev'ed. Put it back in only for it to come out again and be even worst. Replaced it with a new one that was exactly the same and it worked. Not sure what was wrong with the first one tho.
