Is there any one local to baltimore that knows dsm's well. I will be looking to have a motor installed in my 95 gsx along with the trans when it comes back from the machine shop. I am having the machine shop build in from oil pan to valve cover. With the timing belt already installed. It will need the trans, Tourque converter, starter, mounts, Wired up, new hoses installed etc. I pulled it out but its looking like I wont have time to put it back in. My work load on the job is building up. I have a tow truck at my disposal if it needs to go to a shop. My shop help here is not to bright when it comes to installing motors. Someone may even come to this shop to do the install. Side work what ever they please. It will just have to be done. The rate im going picking at it when I have time it will be a classic.

Check out Atlantic Motorsports in DC. They do great work, more known for Evo's and Skylines and what not, but they do good work with DSM's as well.

you said your shop help, and tow truck, what shop you work at? Im always looking around for new places. Ive done plenty of 1st gen work, i own 2 now and had a 3rd. Never really messed with 2nd gens but cant be that much differnet.

Im at perry hall auto body. We can do mechanical work but with the recent snow we got a load of work dumped off on us so no time to get to my own stuff. I keep our customers first me last. With the talks of more winter weather on the way this week we may be working through it for a bit. The body shop has 2 international roll backs. Plus I work part time on the weekend for a towing company in rosedale doing police impounds.

no kidding, i think my girls car has been there before, there or chucks, cant remember, im the forman over at the midas on joppa rd, but been looking for a new home in the work field, they want any mechanics over there? im actually off today and out looking, going to rons on eastern ave in a bit, they have that mechanic/ tow truck combo, ive been trying to find someone to give me some seat time with a truck, but everyone wants someone with experence. ive only operated a roll back like twice.

All the body guys here do their own mechanical work. If its over their head it will go to our alignment tech who does mechanical its rare it happens but if we need it hes there. We may be looking for a body guy in the near future. The way you know if your car was done here is if you remember the 3 story building. We use a elevator to move the cars from floor to floor. One of the only shops who do everything on site also. I dont send cars out for nothing if we run into a problem like say we need this new scanner for tpms sensors we just go buy one. As far as towing all we do is baltimore county police calls.

I cant say for sure but I have not heard much good from employees of Rons. Most of them complain about working there. They may give you a start though. Frankford might even give you a start to.

Holly hell, where have you been since I needed bodywork done to my 87 pup? Not sure if you do any bodywork on the side but I might have a project for you to tackle. That is IF your not too expensive!

Wish I had a garage, Id offer to put that motor/ tranny in for ya seeing as I just had to redo my clutch in 35 degree weather!

my shop wont really let me work on my car that much anymore, simple things are ok, but i need to rewire my 90 to a 91-94 set up for my link. ive got boxes of crap to put on this car but dont have a place to tear it down for a few weeks. oh well come on spring....

yea i drove past rons a lil while ago and, i dont know, place looks squeezed in there, everythings on top of each other, not sure bout that.

Im have it good here as far as shop use goes. Hell im still here. I just finished tearing down the motor so it can go over to jb's. Our new lifts still have not come in yet so its a litte harder but I have air and its warmer than 25 inside. I have had the eclipse here while I was welding my subframe connectors and hanging magnaflow exhaust on my T/A and have my beater Grand Am here also. Im also the manager so I can come and go as needed.

As far as side work With my small fleet of cars its hard for me to get time to do it. I also have part time job that eats up some time. And my wife and my 10 month old son. So time is pressed. I go out on sunday nights but I am actually working since I go on call from 5pm on Friday to 6am Monday as the only driver for the weekends. I can probally get you in contact with someone who will do side work.

we do alot of dsm work as well, my business partner is out of baltimore but we usually tow the big jobs up here to my shop in Hagerstown. Anyways we do everything from routine maintenance to full custom fabrication.

Got them PM's Will reply as soon as I get the motor ready to go in. Holding on machine shop right now to get the ball rolling.

Thanks

Just realized you went with JB's.. A buddy of mine spent 8000 on a B16a there only to find out improper machining did it in at only 300 miles... Not sure how you feel about them but I wont be going to them for anything. Hope the best for ya though.

They did a 5.0 for me a while ago. With no problems at all. I really beat the hell out of it to. Im having them build the motor from top to bottom that way 1 all i got to do is put it in the car 2 if there is a issue they did it. I also know there are stories on just about everyplace around to. I was between them and AHM. As long as a local guy can get close to the "mail order" stuff I a;ways go local. Now my trans is probally going to go to foregin muscle. I cant get a local guy to get with in 800 bucks of their price. Hopefully I dont have any issues. Im keeping the build mild so I dont have to work on it all the time. A simple 12 second car is all im looking for.

Like you said, EVERY shop is going to have stories. Your shop, my shop we all get bad rep at some point. I was on the fence about where i wanted to get mine done, and EVERYONE has an opinion. Around the corner from my shop is a little hole in the wall called swiners, (hope i spelled that right) When you walk in its like holy crap, they work in here!!!! Its like a maze to walk though and its pretty much a garage, but have heard a few good things about them and dsm's. My buddy from boost boyz gets all his motor work done here and i hear that jerrys mitsubishi sends there block and head work there. So they might be my goto, plus i can walk there from work so i can always pop in at anytime and check on the work!!!!:thumb:

whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO Jackson Auto Machine! They did some machine work for me and the finished product works just fine, but their customer service is TERRIBLE and they are way over priced!

I did consider them but the price compared to jb's made me go to jb's. I dont fall for the specialist hype. I just want a place who is honest and has good customer service. So far I have recieved that from jb's. I can stop by they take me in the back and show what they did explain it and make sure im i the loop. The same way I do for my customers. Thats what it takes to keep me happy.

guys I do full machine work as well, the same guy has been doing my machine work for almost 7 years now. And 75% of my work is Mitsubishi.

There are local auto mechanics around your area that might help you out with your DSM. I know of a list where you can find the trusted one. I am familiar with only some. But from the list you can see lots of options.

Lonnie and Ray are both great people to do business with. I learned a lot thu them and kash, an ex employee of there's.

Kash has alot of knowledge but owes alot of people money. He had a shop that was robbed and just packed up and left.

I'm in Hagerstown, MD, right off I-70 and I-81.
I'm pretty experienced with dsm's, 5 here at the moment for work, along with 11 3000GT's. I have over 12 years experience directly in Mitsu stuff and I went to school for this as well. My place is called Auto Velocity, the site is up but not much on there at the moment. I also used to be the lead tech at altered atmosphere motorsports in Gaithersburg, MD.
