edmonton,
hey guys, what makes a type R so fast???

how does it differ from normal integras???
i heard its only because it as no a/c and stuff like that, let me know thanks

Ciao

IMO Type R's are not that fast...

Odd line of questioning...

Does Hond... sorry, Acura offer AWD yet? How bout Turbo's?

It has around 195HP compared to the GSR which has 170HP. If I remember correctly it has more aggressive cams and a better flowing head. Probably more but I forget what it is.

They're pretty damn nice cars too. :)

Here is a little info for you:

1.8-liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system
High-volume intake manifold, hand-polished intake ports
Twin-coil intake valve springs with oval cross-section for high lift
Lightweight, high flow intake valves to extend engine rev range by 200 rpm
High-lift, high-strength connecting rods
High-rigidity, 8-counterweight crankshaft to reduce vibration at high rpm
High-compression (10.6:1), low-friction pistons
High-volume airbox with repositioned intake
Aluminum oil cooler maintains optimum engine-oil temperature
High-flow exhaust system - 30% improvement

Gear Ratios :)1) / (Rpm) Mph
1st 3.230 / (8400 rpm) 39 mph
2nd 2.105 / (8400 rpm) 60 mph
3rd 1.458 / (8400 rpm) 87 mph
4th 1.107 / (8400 rpm) 115 mph
5th 0.848 / (8000 rpm) 143 mph

Type R's are very quick. High 14's I believe. Very respectable for a naturally aspirated, 4 cylinder, vehicle with under 200hp. Plus, with the dependability of Honda...you can't go wrong.

Type R's are not fast.

The answer to your question is Honda = Shit.

They're a very fine-tuned naturally aspirated car. They're a very good track car, also (they would probably wail on a lot of us at a road track or auto-xing). All in all, wether you want to admit it or not, it's a very good and dependable car.

As opposed to MITSUBISHI, the epitome of racing technology!

How many F1 engines has Mitsubishi made.. Oh wait..

How many JGTC cars has Mitsubishi made that have podium finishes... Oh wait..

How many mid-engined cars has Mitsubishi made... Oh wait...

I can go OOOON AND ON.

Piss off, troll boy. What are you, fourteen years old?

Type R's are track (As in tracks with TURNS ON THEM, not strips) cars, period. A niche market car for the enthusiast who turns the wheel once in a while.

Type R's are hand-assembled, with VERY skilled people putting them together and creating them. they're not like the "mustang GT" of Acura's. they are basically the "SALEEN". they are rare, not the fastest car around, but very quick and handle AWESOME for a FWD car.

they use Type R's on road course races all the time, and they do very good. put a fwd dsm in the same category and it will lose. i love dsm's but a type r will beat a 1G/2G FWD turbo DSM in almost every race imaginable, stock for stock that is.

This question was answered with the 3rd and 4th replies. The Honda bashers need to hold their tongues a little more. Calling an Integra Type R "shit" is just ridiculous. They may not have the same power potential as our cars do for straight line speed, but that doesn't mean they can't tear many DSMs a new one on a road course or autoX. Let's be a little less ignorant please - the question wasn't whether you like Honda or not, it was why the Type R is different from other Integras. If you don't know, move on.
