WTF! valve cover wont come off!?

screwdriver...elbow grease...did you take out the ones under the plug-wire cover too?

Just make sure that you have every bolt out. Once they are I just used a soft faced mallet and just taped it all around the cover to break the seal.

yeah, sometimes the rubber seal around the valve cover melts and makes it difficult to remove the cover....it will come off with a little effort.

well i finaly got it off tuck more than a little effort i banged on it with a hammer no help etc. so finaly i just got pissed and yanked at it hard as crap (stuck 2 fingers in the oil fill) and yanked and POP! off she came.. i have already sanded it now with 22 and 400 grit paper i got some 2000 but i dont see any point in it so im off to buy some paint now.. (since it's all nice and preped)

i just grabbed it by the PCV valve with one hand, and the other on the oil fill hole and pulled.... I painted my valve cover, sanded it down nicely then painted it black, then sanded the letters off to make them a nice silver color, then clearcoated the whole thing.

Thx, I am debateing on sanding the top of the lettering to a mirror finish.. or to leave it like it is.. i think i might just sand the "2000" part...

hah and it's not anywhere remotely near 500hp it's still pretty much stock other than free mods and I did alot of maintincess the previus owner NEGLECTED to do!

And as for the switch's... I'll tell you this.. it has nothing to do with Nitrus or Lighting.. :p

I just wedge a flat head into the gasket and turned. Damaged the gasket but i was replacing it anway. What procedures did you guys do to go about painting it? When i took mine off I cleaned it real good, then painted it with some VHT 1200 degree paint I got at the store. Well, it came out like ass so i just sprayed it with brake cleaner to get the paint off. Should i have used some hi-temp primer? It looks nice and shiney but i wanted to paint it red, that looks sweet Ripper.

thx.. i just tuck it off useing some yanking.. used the old gaskit (might regret that) but i just sanded it with 400 fine grit wet/dry paper cleaned with grease lightning and although i washed it with degresser first.. but anyway dried it off with a air compressor let it sit for a min and painted it with some 500*F paint it's Chrystler red forget the number.. but anyway the valve cover should never get that hot i dont think so... why did you use 1200 thats kinda over kill and dont thoughs higher temps look real dull?

well it was either 1200 or 1500, so i got the 1200. But the paint didn't even stick thats why i was wondering if i should have used primer.

you should sand the cover down with a fine grit paper and it will allow the paint to stick better. Another way is to put a very fine layer of paint on the cover, fine enough that there isnt enough to allow the paint to run. That paint will act as the primer for the next layer.

The finished result after powdercoating, still have to shave the letters and polish it. All in all looks pretty good. I like the mirror red look myself. Black kinda blends in with the darkness of the engine bay, I guess I would probably go with Chrome Smoke before I would black.
