I got my new motor running finally and everything working so I took it out for the break in drive. I hit exactly 50 miles and my friend is like " hey lets hook your logger up I wanna know how to use this thing " because he just got 1 too for his evo. So I'm like "ok sure" and I plug it in and tell him to turn it on. He turns it all on it it says " unable to connect ". He says maybe I should shut off the car and restart it and we'll try again. I pull over and shut off the car. We plug it all in and I start it back up. The same thing comes up "unable to connect" ... but at the same moment I throw a check engine light now too. Now I'm really worried .. is the logger messed up and causing me to throw the light or whats going on here?!?! Well we drive back to his house ( car drives fine ) and hook up his logger ( also obd2 ) .. same thing .. unable to connect. Now I'm really worried. I wanna know what the code is ( I'm thinking it has something to do with tuning ), but nobody can read it. The palm worked fine last year on my car so it makes no sense .. mine also worked on his car a month ago so I know his should work on mine as well. I'm just gonna reset the ecu and see if the light comes back ... but that's still very strange. What would cause this? I have a 7 bolt block with a 1g head, but I retained all my stock sensors and everything. VERY WIERD...

oh yea another interesting thing to note:

I swapped a 1g head on my car and I am using the 1g coilpacks. As far as I knew the 1g firing order was the same as the 2g, however right now I have my firing order set up to be 2314 and it runs good like that. It wouldn't even start at 4123 ... that confused me quite a bit. All my other sensors are the same as they used to be, so I don't know how to explain this, but it runs awesome....

yea I kept my stock 97 sensor ... that's what confused me. Anyways, I reset the ecu last night and now both loggers read it fine. I threw a code for cylinder 3 misfire earlier today, but other than that I'm running good now.

the firing order on the 1gs is 1 2 4 3 I believe. anyway 1 AND 4 can not be next to each other as we use a wasted spark method.

that happend to me, my friend tried hookin his logger up to my car but it didn't want to connect also. i worked on all the other 2Gs but mine.
after a couple tries it worked though :thumb:
maybe its a 97 thing

What do you mean wasted spark method? Also ... aren't 1 and 4 on 1 coilpack, and 2 and 3 on another .. meaning they have to be next to each other? The car works if I run 2314, 2341, 3214, 3241. Maybe my car is just wierd?

hmmm a link will probably be better than me explaining this.

because of this firing system the 2 cylinders on the same coil pack HAVE to be 180 degrees out at the crank.

I am 90% sure you have it right and are just reading some things wrong.
