Why does my new DVD player do this?

Have you checked the setting on your tv? It may be in a wide zoom mode, hence it cutting off a bit. My widescreen Sony, does it as well.

Yep, checked all the settings, it still does it.
not a big problem, just something I noticed.

Looks like your TV is stretching the image too far.

How'd you get the screenshot off the computer?

in your picture it looks like you have a border all the way around your picture what is that? the top one is def. being zoomed, settings in the initial setup are prob incorrect on the dvd player, i assume the disc is widescreen? you need to trouble shoot a little more....then get back w/ some more info.

that "border" is standard with LetterBox version. In normal viewing mode(pan and scan) , the whole screen is filled, and the viewer is losing a lot of viewing space because it is zoomed in, filling the screen. When they want to show other parts of the screen, it automatically pans over to show it.
With Power DVD, you can press "C" and it will take a screenshot.

Anyway, I've looked at everything, I changed the view, looked at the tv menu. There are no settings for screen size (on the TV menu), but on the DVD player there is, but only 16:9, 4:3, and 4:3 pan and scan. Those settings either don't change it or make it to big (16:9). So I just don't know.

I thinking there's gotta be a setting in your tv somewhere. My sisters new tv has a setting in her menu for this. Dunno what kinda tv it is though. I'd go through every menu option on your tv super thoroughly. Get back to us.

i understand pan and scan and letterboxing, non-anamorphic, and anamorphic,aspect ratio diffrences. a 1:85:1 ratio is going to fill your screen in a widescreen tv, higher aspects like 2:35:1 will not and some will have diffrent sizing depending on anamorphic, and non-anamorphic prints. so if i am looking at your picture on the top correctly there appears to be a frame all the way around the picture, and that is not correct, the bottom one is how the print should be viewed . the DVD is a 2:35:1 ratio anamorphic so it will always have the border on the top and bottom, but not the sides. i am just trying to figure out what that border is for one. also your tv is not a widescreen tv, and your dvd player is set up incorrectly if that is what you see.........try hooking a a ps2 and see what happens, or borrow someone elses's dvd player.

Ok, I can see the confusion now.
Actually, the TV view is very similar, with the black bars on top and bottom, only. I just cut them out when I was using Paintshop Pro. I fixed it now. Don't worry about the black borders on the left and right.

I have looked through all menus, etc..etc.. no idea what the deal is. thx people, I'll let ya know someday...

return the dvd player, i read some shady reviews on the unit, do not know if you are low on cash, but that would be my first step,maybe pick up a panasonic on closeout if you can find one.and they are not too bad priced. ...do not know if that helps......i have spent more money on my home theater then i need to .......

you that you have a 27 flat screen. that is not a widescreen tv. go into your dvd menu. and put it 4/3 it is on 16/9. try that it will fix your problem.

I check the settings, its on 4:3.

Apologies for the sidetrack, but my Power DVD won't do a cap off LeMans. Is yours hacked or anything? Or is your version of Superman hacked?

No, I just bought a DVD(not the Magnavox for my TV) that came with Power DVD.
