whos done the 1g in 2g engine swap

hey guys i'm alomst ready to do my swap, waiting on my pistons. talked to mike from sbr and he told me to just go with forged pistons instead of going 95 pistons. just wanted to talk to you guys about the engine install if theres gonna any problems or anything. thanks guys for your time and help:talon:
 
What kind of info are you looking for? Join the Yahoo group, 1gina2g(http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSM1gina2g/). There is more info there than you can handle. Also www.magnusmotorsports.com (go to tech articles on the top of the page) and www.roadraceengineering.com (look for it on the site map) have info on the swap.

It's a pretty straightfoward job. If you use ARP studs with a 2G head, remember that the holes in the head must be opened up about 1mm so the studs fit (6 bolt studs are 12mm,7 bolt are 11mm).
That isn't listed on any of the websites that give instructions for the swap.
 
thxz man, ya i read everything from magnus and rre, gonna check up on yahoo, just trying to see how the wiring is gonna be and if thereb is any difficultys dropping it in
 
Wiring is the easiest part.

All you really need to do is know how to do is cut 6 wires and solder up 3 from one sensor and 1 from the other sensor.

Each sensor has 3 wires. A black, Red, and then the signal wire.

So your new cam angle sensor has a black, red, and two signal wires.

You just hook up the signal wires and the power(red) and ground(Black)

Then you are good to go.

I would suggest using dsm link if you have a 95 ecu. If you have a 97-99 I have heard people dont have a problem with random misfires so it might save you some cash.
 
thxz man, you took alot off me, that was my worst fear, getting the pistons soon, and then bringing to machine shop to asemble everything together. just was scared about the drop in, and wires. was just on dsmlinks webpage, gonna order it, and a cheap laptop to run it. don't wanna worry about the misfires and everything. thxz alot for your help, i hope this all goes in smooth. doing really the same thing that mike from sbr did. no oil squirters, so they don't have to be taken off. thxz again
 
You don't actually get a misfire, just a misfire code causing a CEL. There is a cheap way to fix this using a resistor, it prevents the ECU from even looking for a misfire situation. It's also listed on the Magnus site.
 
If you're talking about the potentiometer mod then I personally wouldn't recommend it because it has claimed a few motors from running too lean. The RM really does suck a$$. You'll be cruising along and "BAM!" you lose a cylinder. Kinda sounds like a WRX with exhuast. A temp. fix is to disconnect the TPS. ECU wont look for misfires but you can't tune with it like that because you have no throttle input.
 
ProStreetOnline is currently in the process of testing and working out the glitches in their 2G to 1G ECU adapter. I'm waiting to see the final product. You get the OBDI timing attributes and it should correct the misfire.
 
thats kool, only other thing that i hate is that i'm FWD. i been looking for a AWD shell, so i can launch easier then sliding everywhere:(
 
have to ever heard of having a 91 turbo head with a 90 non turbo shortblock, cause they don't have oil squirters, i believe mike from sbr did it
 
i think this is what i'll be doing just wqaiting on the forged pistons, and magnus takes to squirters out anyway, so no need to have them,
