I did a couple of searchs, and was not able to find the answers I was looking for. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction....
Well, this last weekend I went to the track, and I am extremely dissapointed.
I went to Qualcomm, which is basically a parking lot turned into an 1/8 mile dragstrip.
So I did a couple of runs and was pulling off 9.9's at 73mph.. I was doing 2.4 60's and the worst part, is I was on Nitto 555 Drag Radials.. With the trap speeds I was pulling, I should have been running mid to low 9's. I even heard one of the officials, when giving me my timeslip, saying that my car was stock.. I wanted to say "Look at the MPH, you dumbass" but I thought better of it.
So after being pissed off all night, the next day (Saturday) I decided to go to a real dragstrip (Carlsbad) and run the 1/4 mile. I was just assuming that Qualcomm had bad traction because it is really a parking lot.
So at Carlsbad the best I could do was 15.2 at 95 MPH!! I was getting 2.6 and 2.7 60's with Drag Radials. With these traps I should be running low to mid 14's...
!
In both scenerios, I feathered the clutch, dropped at about 3,500 RPMs and got ver little wheel spin. However, I did feel the car lunge backwards as the front end started to lift up, and then bounce back to the ground.
So I have come to the conclusion that I am having huge weight transfer and I just can't get traction. I am thinking that maybe my shocks are worn out / blown. The car has 94,000 miles on it, and I bought the car at 75,000 so I do not know if the shocks were ever replaced. They look like the stock ones to me.
So basically, my question is this: What shocks should I run for a drag setup. Not really concerned about the cornering abilty, just want to keep the weight transfer to a minimum. Also, I would like to be able to adjust the ride quality, because currenty my GST is my daily driver.
I was looking a putting some GR2's to replace the stock fronts, and some Tokico Illuminas in the back for the ajustability. On track day, I would put the backs to the stiffest setting, and I figure the front GR2's would be soft enough for the front.
Please let me know what you guys think is best, of if what I am thinking of doing will work.
