Ive been getting bad gas mileage so I ran it till the needle was one the line, no fuel light. I then put exactly 8 gallons of gas in and it took me to 3/4 of a tank!?! Shouldnt it be around half? I cant figure out if this could be why I am calculating bad gas mileage or Im getting worse mileage then I think. Im figuring Im getting a little over 200 miles a tank. I ordered a new O2 sensor that it one the way.

I'm not sure where you all are getting your fuel tank capacities, but all 2g's are 16.9 gallons according to the owners manual (17 gallons according to the FSM). The gas light will come on when there's 2.1 gallons left.

If your gas gauge is off, either check the sender in the tank or take off the clear gauge cluster cover, go fill up the tank, and put the needle on with it pointing at the F.

Running your car low on gas is not good for the fuel pump. The fuel in the tank is used to cool it and if there isn't any fuel in the tank sloshing around to keep it cool, it will over heat and prematurely wear out the bushings in the pump. Then, when you fill with with cold fuel (60 degrees or so) the metal shrinks, then you have a seized fuel pump and a full tank to drop to replace the pump.

Running it low is NOT good.
What do you think happens to all that shit floating around in your gastank when you run low.
Yeah it' gets sucked into the fuel pump and all that, which is not good.
Don't run it to empty.

Im gonna pull off my cluster cover and put the needle on F when I fill up.

I don't have a clue where my 14.6 gallon capacity number came from anymore... it's been in my head so long. However your numbers seemed screwy so I looked at my service manual and found the capacity is stated as 15.9 gallons, not 16.9. I do apologize for posting incorrectly that it was 14.6 and now it's gonna bug me as to where the hell that number came from heh.

I do know from experience in two 95 talon awd and my current 99 gsx that the usable capacity in these cars is around 13.6-13.7 gallons, because I was stupid enough to push it multiple times.

I've noticed on a few 2gs that once you get less than 1/4tank the gas gauge doesn't read anymore. I've seen it on 2 95's don't know if its a common problem.

As far as I've seen, all dsms gas gauges suck. I've never had one work right. Mine runs down accurately, but then from 1/4 to 0 it drops really fast. Then I found out I usually have about 5 gallons left when I hit the E mark. They're all different and messed up in their own special way.

I agree all my mitsu gauge have given me problems all the way back to my starion LOL!

yep, mine has this same problem... the needle would drop until the 1/4 line ...and never hit the E..... so the " idiot light" comes on at 1/4 line because it never reaches the E ....

I filled my car up and put my needle and the full line, but Im already down to about 5/8ths of a tank at 90 miles so thats still not that good.:notgood:

ANOTHER UPDATE: Even though I set my gauge needle to be full when I fill up my tank, I still show 200 miles a tank until my fuel light comes on when the needle is on empty, BUT....When I fill up it still only takes 10 gallons to fill up! So its not that bad I get about 18-20 MPG, but its a pain in the ass mentally feeling like my car is bad on gas having to fill up every 200 miles.

for me to fill it from completely empty its about 12 gallons a little bit more and i get about 225 to a tank

What in the hell are you doing? Set the trip meter, do the math. "Miles per tank" is brainlessness.

ALL DSMs have the same 16-gallon capacity. Different sources will fudge .1 gallon or so, and it's yet to be determined what the useable capacity is.

Remember I just got off the boat? :D I have done the math, everytime I get about 200 miles a tank and when I go to fill up it never goes over 10 gallons. I dont know what the hell is going on.
