hey im a a newbie here and i read up on sum stuff and know sum basic knowledge bout cars and i was wondering what should i get fo a first car?

i have my eyes on a eclipse 95-99 gs-t, but all this talk about crankwalk i've see makes me kinda parinoid and i DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT CRANKWALK IS LOL. well anyhow how many miles should i buy a used gs-t and what u year should i get.

but i might drive a shit box around for my first few months to get the physics of a car down, and maybe it might be stick and it might be not but i don't really care.

what should my first mods be too. yea i read that thing about first mods but its tells u to get a turbo and all that shit right off the bat and i don't want all that. im thinking about doing exhaust, intake, and headers. and if i save up enuf maybe a cf hood.

o yea does turbos waste more gas than not having one?
and what r ur guys gas mileage right now with all those mods on ur car?

LOL mad newb questions

Crank walk is when there is excessive vibration as well as movement of the crank shaft in relation to the main bearings and block. This will cause failure of the motor such as a spun bearing or thrown rod. Basically anything can happen.:( As far as mods go your already have a basic idea as to what you want. Intake, cat back exhaust would be good basic mods with out killin your pockets. As far as mileage is concerned, a car will only be as good as the maintenance that is kept. In my opinion try to keep the mileage under 100k. If the maintenance records are kept and scheduled as needed you should be alright. It is up to the prospective owner to check the records. For your last question.....when was the last time you have seen an economical sports car? The more performance the more gas you eat. Thats just the nature of the beast/ DSM. I hope this helps.:dsm: :thumb:

Go with what you want. The gas mileage should be about the same unless you use the turbo to it's potential :). Look up that kind of stuff on Edmunds. It all really depends on what you want. If you want a show car, get a non-turbo and save the money and do cf hood and crap. If you want a car with more go get a turbo and do some basic mods and you can have a mid-200's hp car with ease. Get as low of mileage as you can afford, year doesn't really matter, just that 95-99 is 2G, anything before is 1G, and anything after is 3G and there aren't any stock turbos. Figure out what you want from the car first. I've been doing the same thing and hopefully it'll all come together next month. You could also look into chip stuff as a relatively cheap mod, although I'm having a hard time finding replacement ECUs for DSMs anywhere on this site or all over the rest of the net.

These cars double the speed limit in mere seconds so combine that with inexperience and I expect to see your mutilated corpse being removed from a wreck on some highway. You're gonna make somebody clean up your skull (brain detail) when you crash like Pulp Fiction haha.
Seriously dude bust your cherry on a Honda cause they don't break and they're not as lethal. Take care

Turbochargers use more gas because they compress oxygen and then shove it into the engine to be used in the explosions. Because simple chemistry will teach you that you need oxygen to create fire ... same reason why fresh-outta-the-pump gas does NOT explode (it hasn't oxidated yet.)

Intercoolers cool down the air that goes to the turbocharger because if you think of things like liquid CO2, they are tightly compacted into tubes because they are at lower temperatures. So the lower temperature the O2 is at, the more air can be compacted.

Well, your car isn't just gonna say "hey, let's keep injecting the same amount and let off a huge amount of Oxygen from the combustion. " The car is going to try to use every last bit of oxygen (if the ECU is good) that it can. So once the engine knows the amount of oxygen that will enter the engine, it adjusts the fuel injected based on an O2:fuel ratio.

That's kinda a based intro to turbocharing/intercooling/fuel. I'm no expert on the subject, but it's something you should know about.

Get whatever you can afford. If you want some extra spending money and don't care about fancy looks, get a 1g DSM. If you want a "fancy" looking car, get a 2g. Then you have a choice between Eclipse, Talon and Laser (1g only.) They go from expensive to cheapest (respectively.) The more money you save, the more you can spend on making it better ;).

The next question is if you want fast stop-to-go or fast overall speed (AWD vs FWD, respectively.) I'm not going to steer you any direction. Just think about what you want based on stop and go (AWD), or top speed (FWD).

Turbo or no Turbo? If you want a car with power, get Turbo. The 1g DSM cars have the 4G63 engine if they're Naturally Aspirated or Turbo. So even if you get a non-turbo 1g DSM, you can always upgrade to a turbo. The 2g NA DSMs use the 420A, make sure to keep that in mind.

But never forget, it's your car, not mine or anyone elses. So getting what you want is most important (which is why I stress nothing, even though my car is AWD, turbo and 1G)

There could be a good reason for that bud:D
And thats because you dont need a "chip" or replacement ecu unless you want to roll with the big boys and get a ems.
