I was curious, I have a low vacuum problem and I noticed that when I remove my oil cap I can feel/hear what sounds like exhaust coming out.

-15" at idle,

Why would it do this and what would cause this?

Could having my exhaust cam gear off a tooth or something contribute to this?

Please help!

Okay, I just did another compression test.

WHen I first go the motor (at the JDM motors place) they did compression test on it (hooked up starter) and it read close to 180 psi across the board.

Now I did another test today and it read 150 across the board! WTF.

I did change the timing belt prior to installing the motor and ever since I installed it the car runs pretty good, but it gets pretty damn loud at WOT, and I cant boost past 18psi no matter if my wastegate is connected or closed shut. My turbo seems to spool a bit late as well. (50 trim)

My car does not burn ANY oil and blow ZERO smoke out of the exhaust

WHen I did the compression test I was curious so I added a capful of oil into one of the cylinders to see what happened and my compression numbers hardly moved at all, maybe 3psi...

So I believe the motor is good, I honestly think it has something to do with my cam timing.

My base timing is dead on at 5Degrees, which leads me to believe my exhust cam is off time

Only thing is, with the engine in the car, the marks looks pretty lined up. But I could be wrong.

Also it seems like my car wants to knock if I dont run it crazy rich, not to mention my cruise fuel trim is impossible to tune.

I had this same setup on my gst, so I know everything was working fine on my other motor.

i guess if you had some extreme over lap you would be losing a lot of boost out of the exhaust. but have you double checked for boost leaks? this sounds like a horrible boost leak because you can't boost much and this is definitely making your turbo run too hot.

im gonna go with a boost leak as well

as for your compression #'s, dont worry
Its better that they read close together like that then be a higher #

Mine read 120 accross the board and i was scared shitless.
My friends dad told me not to worry and gave me his gauge to use.

Sure enuff the #'s read 180 on all 4 with the different (better) gauge.

Okay, well Im going to double check the boost leak right now.

I have boost leak tested before with no major leaks and still idled at -15" of vacuum. SO, I also checked my cam timing and it seems off, like the marks line up just above he head line, so maybe the exhaust cam and the intake cam are advanced one tooth?

I cant really tell but when I lay a ruler across all marks they are supposed to be a striaght line and be just under the middle of the cam bolt, but mine lies just OVER the middle of the cam bolt.....I dunno.

Im probably going to tear this bi*** apart right now, I have no patience.

Weirdness.

Sounds like you've solved your own problem. Cam gears don't seem to line up properly, car doesn't seem to run the way it should and you've lost some vacuum. I'd defently be pulling all the covers off and checking the "proper" timing alignment marks.

Yup. Here's a vote for "tear that bi***". It sounds like you are off a tooth. Usually if it looks like, maybe, they are close, then generally that means they are off. When they are on, you can just tell (how's that for scientific?).
