I'm working on build number 3 and I gotta get it right this time. My situation this time is I have a built trans with a broken differential, Kaaz differential, and I need a replacement. The car is FWD so this is not something I can do without. I can try to fix the kaaz, replace it with a stock unit with an insert or fix my kaaz unit and sell it to get a kormex diff (which is equivalent to the quaife unit).
I am considering getting rid of the kaaz because of the harsh driveability, unless I was putting the wrong fluid in it, and doing an AWD swap would be cheaper than a quaife. The kormex is $750 and the stock used unit goes for $50 from shep and $175 rebuilt the insert's $200.

Looking for input, what do you guys think.

BTW: If you choose the Kaaz unit please let me know how to decrease the chatter, that thing locks up so bad during turns it's tearing up my axles.

uhh i'm not on the up-and-up on FWDs but I don't see why you'd be breaking aftermarket diffs let alone stock ones going mid 14s at low 90 MPH:confused:

yeah I know, when I talked to the shop who built my trans, they said that they no longer sell kaaz differentials because of all of the problems. Kaaz was hard to get a hold on the phone and that you had to run their expensive fluid which caused the lsd to lock up constantly.

Depends on power and how you drive, but running an insert is almost asking to break the diff. If you're having the trans pulled, do it right once.

My personal vote would be for the Quaife, but since thats not an option I voted the kormex/KarKing LSD. I run the Quaife & its held up great so far. Some say those inserts work great while others say they didn't notice any difference. Either way they still don't do anything to strengthen the stock diff, so your just asking to explode it, if you happen to see some nice wheel hop.

What are these karking/kormex diffs you guys are talking about? i've been trying to get a diff forever and the only one's i found was KAAZ and Quaiffe, I called KAAZ because we use them in our porsche track cars and i love the way the pull out of a corner. I called to order direct from KAAZ since we buy a lot of their diffs we get them direct at the shop. They actually told me if i was ever going to launch on slicks or drag race to buy the quaiffe. They admitted that their mitsu diffs break just like stockers at the ring gear when launched hard on slicks.. When i called RRE to order a quaiffe they were out and promised to call as soon as they were in (was supposed to be a week or so) that was the day i joined here looking for a diff. So at least 2-3 months and no call back from RRE, i guess they don't want my money???

Sorry if i'm not much help, just going off the only experience i have and it's with the KAAZ's.. There's an adjustment or preload you set on KAAZ units to set where they lock up at. I bet you weren't told about that and never loosened it up from the factory setting which really needs about 350+hp to it (at least on our porsches) to start to act right on turns and open up a bit, but they are still noisy from it trying to put hte power ot the most loaded wheel at all times.

never heard of the karking, but if the kaaz broke on you, there is only one left, the quaife.

also, if jack tells you to do something, listen

Thanks, but I have never used a Karking or Kormex LSD, so I have no input on those. They could be a quality unit, or not... I have been tempted to buy one and take it apart to see if it is of the same quality as the Quaife, but I just never have the time anymore...
