coming from home from work the other day, my coolant low level light comes on. so i pull over and fill up the reservoir. i start driving again, and the light comes on again about 15 minutes later. so now im worried, i pull over again to fill the reservoir and i notice steam coming from under the thermostat. when the steam starts to subside, i see it is coming from one of the hoses to the turbo. it is cracked. so i make the decision to wait awhile so i can open the rad cap and fill the system full, fill the reservoir full, then try to drive to the closest autoparts store. it happened one more time before i made it to the store. i replaced the hoses at the store (soiling my work-clothes), filled the system up and drove home. i havent driven the car since. i was very cognizant of the stock temp gauge the whole time and it never went above mid. i know the stock gauge is a poor indicator of actual temp, and the batteries were dead in my pocketlogger. my decision was influenced by poor-college-boy syndrome caused by eating only ramen noodles too many nights in a row.
i would just like an opinion from an ubermechanic if i did any possible damage to anything while doing this.
thank you.
