Depending on his regualr octane level, he should be ok with stock boost, for 10 bucks worth of gas.

i don't think it matters what you put in now, it's had 8 years of getting the piss beaten out of it with 87 octane... (worst case, of course)

Get the nice stuff....treat your car right. Since you have a turbo, it should say on your gauge cluster "Premium Unleaded Only". Maybe that is just on the 2G. Basically every car HAS to be able to run on the base gas due to regulations and requirements, however it runs better and smoother on the nicer stuff. Not to mention it prolongs the life of your engine if you treat it right.

Lets say the base is 1.09/gal and the premium is 1.29/gal (these are just hypothetical prices....if only ) When you put 12gallons in, you are only going to pay $2.40 more to treat your car right. I'd go with the nice stuff all the time

Rancho Santa Margarita? Hell, we don't know what nice stuff is, SoCali. And what are we supposed to do about the manual clearly stating, "Do not use fuels containing MTBE"?
Mine's still happy on regular, and now if I find a Union station they've done away with MTBE. I give it our lame excuse for premium about every third tank. Running mostly stock, just a BOV and a drop-in air cleaner. It's happy all the way up the hill to Nevada, where they still sell real gas..... kinda.
