I was driving my car home today and noticed the car was getting harder to shift into gear, no grinding , just hard to shift. As I kept going the car eventually would not shift at all. I had to leave it in the gear it was in (4th) to get it home. I suspected that it was the slave cyclinder. I tore it down put it back together and no luck. I canked the car but it had a terrible vibration which I later found that the clutch was not disengaging fully.
I decidied to pull the trans out to see what was going on. For starter, there were bolts missing from the trans. But the main thing I noticied was that the throw out bearing was ate-up to sh#t. I couldn't get it off. The sleeve in which the throw out bearing rides on was grinded on the top. So I removed the throw out bearing. The sleeve was torn up to bad to just replace the throw out bearing. Luckily I have a spare tranny from a 1990 AWD.
I then proceeded to remove the Pressure Plate. The clutch sleeve was basically sitting there. Once I started to remove the P.P. the clutch fell out in pieces. Springs bent, clutch was in about 3 pc. not counting the springs. The disc was in tact but the front and rear plate was totally shot.
I am clueless to what caused all this. The guy I bought the car from said he just put the clutch in(which I doubt). It is however a ACT clutch to the best of my knowledge. Yellow pressure plate?
I will take any help you guys can offer. I am going to go back with a ACT 2100lb. Pressure plate with a street disc unless there is something better that you can pick.
My car is a 1991 AWD Talon TSi.
Thanks for any info you can offer.
