i got a weird problem with my turbo. i noticed recently that my turbo was not spooling up like it should. its a evo III 16g. it looks like my wastegate is opened all the time and i can swing the arm back and fourth! it holds 7psi now :notgood:

so i decided to screw the crappy wastegate and go to external wastegate and i want it on the o2 housing since i dont want to mess with welding the flapper.
so could i run a ext. wastegate with my broken internal wastegate?

any help would be appreciated:)

If you run the external gate off the 02 housing, all you have to do is remove the flapper from the exhaust housing for the turbo.

so i leave the wastegate arm and the actuator?

xreaction122 - If you're converting an internally gated turbine housing to an externally gated housing, it's always going to require some modification. You either have to weld the flapper shut (to run the gate off the manifold), or remove the flapper assembly (to run the gate off the O2 housing). Either way, there's no need to retain the actuator. And don't worry; it's easy to remove. Two bolts, one cotter pin, remove the vacuum line, and you're done.

okay thanks for the input guys

im gonna take the turbo down to a shop and have them weld the flapper arm hole and some minor port.

ill keep an update on how it turned out :thumb:
