Wastegate Fitment Query. Evolution 1

After upgrading my turbo to a TD05 Hybrid built specifically for the Evo in the stock frame I am now suffering boost control issues, namely creeping.

Advised by my engine and mapping gurus to control it with a wastegate setup. I am currently looking at replacing the 02 elbow with an off the shelf setup which incorporates a wastegate. I wanted to double check if anyone else can comment on the linked components in relation to their fitting? I have just splashed out on a full turbo back Fujitsubo Legalis 2.25'' exhaust from Japan and its a an item of beauty. I removed the 3'' exhaust previously on it to help also with the creep. So last thing i want is to start hacking this up to make an ill fitting 02 setup work.
Im not chasing massive power, just a comfortable setup thats not overstressed and is reliable.

Current Setup.
  • FP Manifold.
  • Stock Frame Turbo.
  • Stock O2 housing.
  • Fujitsubo Legalis Down Pipe 2.25''

Options that I have found in the US. If I have missed any Id love to see them! Also if there are any European options to buy it might save me from some import taxes etc.

Thanks in advance, so much knowledge here it would be great to get a yay or nays on the above fitments!

A combination of porting and smoothing the inside of the hot side + running an external gate solved my boost creep issues on my EVO 3 16G turbo. I also did not want to pay so much for an aftermarket O2 housing so I drew and cut my own stainless flanges and had somebody weld the elbows, bung and flanges + vbands together. Fitment was just as I measured it. On my Talon I have an evo 3 manifold+turbo clocked downwards but I'm running the AC fan. From your pics I can see you have way more room, so most aftermarket O2 housings will work for you. You would also be able to run a screamer pipe straight down instead of recirculating. One thing to note, since Brexit, it doesn't matter if you'd be importing such a part from the US or EU, in both cases you would pay duty and tax, but you may be able to save a bit on delivery time and shipping quote. I am currently looking for somebody to make 2-3 copies of mine so I can sell them as they seem to be in demand but little supply, and none in Europe. Also @ec17pse MIGHT be able to fab this up but I'm not sure if he'd have the time right now. Here are some pics and fitment on a 2G!

I run a FP manifold and a hybrid 16G E3 also, 2.5" DP and 3" DP back and I dont creep! But i did heavily port my turbine housing and im using a punishment racing o2 housing. I want to say you might not need to go external and just port your turbine housing to help with this and perhaps look into an actuator that you can adjust the preload vs the stock one thats going to be weak on a hybrid

Thanks for the input everyone, has anyone who fitted these noted any difference with the stock downpipe exhaust....is it going to need butchering to fit?

On a side note, just how loud is a downpipe screamer. It certainly would make life a lot easier!

I've emailed both Punishment and STM on these kits and not one response received from them at all which is a little disconcerting.

All I'm querying is the actual fitment on an Evo 1. How close or how far off are they likely to be! Would love to hear actual first hand fitment experience or even pictures. Its a massive expense and one thats added to as I have to ship across the Atlantic and pay import fees too.

Been speaking with Morrison's, they would need the OEM 02 housing elbow to replicate it. Adding in costs exporting that from here to US.

Who are JNZ, forgive my ignorance?

I thought they already done an evo 3 system for some one, maybe i was wrong then. JNZ tuning is a DSM original company thats been around for ever. they know alot of builds and do builds themselfs so might know about the fitment on you E3 o2 housing style and wastegate fitment

If anyone reading this as a spare OEM O2 Evo 1/2/3 Pipe and is willing to part with it please let me know.

I need to source one for Morrisons Fabrication, shipping from Ireland is extortionate. Prefer to find one in the US from someone willing to post to Morrisons. Thanks

Hey, do you mean the outlet of the 02 housing where it meets the Downpipe? Or the outlet of the Turbo frame?
+1 to JNZtuning, Josh is very knowledgeable and they've been my go to for well over a decade.

Where it meets the downpipe.

Here's a couple more of the EVO3 O2 housing next to a 2G DSM housing from Road Race Engineering back in the day.

So the question is now back to you, what O2 housing do you currently have?

Mine is an EVO1. The EVO 1, 2 and 3 differ from the DSM units which as I can gather is what's indicated above. Hence the need to find a stock frame to compensate for this adjustment.

Evo 123 Turbo units are all the same, Evo123 Down Pipes are all the same which lead me to this point.

No one this side of the pond or EU as far as I can see make this 02 Wastegate slot in option, hence me looking to the USA as there is a lot more choice with you guys.

The elbow is different E1 to E3, certainly. When I put a 68HTA & Evo III o2 housing on my E1, along with a new A’Pexi downpipe (to replace my older A’Pexi downpipe), I had to do some hanger bending to get everything to line up properly. I’m not sure the exact reason, but I would probably have them fab their usual section of downpipe and have a good local fabricator join it to the rest of the exhaust. It guarantees no headaches.

EVO 1 and EVO 2 have the same O2 housing/down pipe, but EVO 3 is different.
Besides the EVO 3 O2 housing flange angle, here is the port size comparison. You can see that the EVO 1/2 O2 housing have a larger inlet port diameter than DSM and the same outlet port diameter as DSM. The EVO 3 O2 housing has the same inlet port diameter as the EVO 1/2 but has a larger outlet port diameter than the EVO 1/2.

I don't have the EVO 3 O2 housing anymore, so I can't take new comparison pics. But I still have the EVO 1/2 O2 housing, so I took some pic with DSM O2 housing.
The last 2 pics are old pics I took before. Left is EVO 3, Right is DSM.

Left is DSM, Right is EVO 1/2.

The Morrison setup is going to be the best scenario, but if you are encountering boost creep, you might also do well with an enlarged wastegate port on the stock turbine housing. I bought a 7cm turbine housing with a 34mm wastegate flapper valve and the boost has been quite stable. I paired it with a Holset actuator for better boost holding capability, too.

@DSMPT Can you make out the part number on the Evo1/2 outlet? Is it MD300200 or MD300201

Amayama is telling me it MD300200 is the outlet for both the Evos. So CD9A Evo 1 and CD9A Evo 2/3 which isnt definitive.

Mine is MD300201 which is starting to look like an Evo3 part.

Mine has a MD300201 stamp. I removed it by myself, so I am sure this housing is taken from a stock EVO 2.
I think yours is a EVO 1/2 housing. I had a couple of EVO 2 housings more before and IIRC they also had a 201 stamp. The EVO 3 O2 housing obviously has a larger port and flange (Down pipe side). So I think you could notice it. I don't know for sure why the stamp is its part number +1. My guess would be with stud bolts is MD300200 and without stud bolts is MD300201.

DSM : Part number MD124673, Stamp 674
EVO 1/2 : Part number MD300200, Stamp MD300201
EVO 3 : Part number MR224847, Stamp 848

DSM : MD124673, Stamp 674

Massive thanks to all who have shared their knowledge here. Taking the time to post up the info is appreciated. Its saved me a few headaches and now hopefully on the right track. Ive a spare Evo1/2 pipe sourced and winging its way to Morrison Fabrications.

Thanks all.
