Vortex Generator for a 2G

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Drop on a front skirt, push the air to the sides, and don't worry about the underside. You're not getting payoff out of it until over 50 anyway, which is probably about 15% of your driving.
Both 1G and 2G DSMs were amongst the lowest Cx of any production car when they were current. They've seldom been surpassed.
The rear wing or toenail makes no difference. What you think you feel with a hoop is merely thought.
Vortex generators will only look like they do, whether you believe they're cool or ghastly. Their effect will be trivial, and again, only over fifty mile an hour.

Thought I would add some info to this dead thread God knows why. Maybe.

"In areas where the body transitions at a rate of more than 12 degrees, turbulator strips, vortex generators, diffusers, very short fairings or other devices can be used to "trip the airflow". The idea is that areas like the transition between the roof and rear window on the average car creates a large vortex. Any large vortices effectively grab the car and try to hold it back as it tries to slip through the air. If the air that makes up the vortex can be "tripped" before it leaves the back of the car, it will make smaller vortices, which will have a smaller effect on the overall aerodynamics of the vehicle. Measurement of the effects of these devices at highway speeds has been difficult to obtain. "

thought I had put in the URL but I guess not. I was also trying to find the site with the drag coefficient for a DSM. I spent probably 15-20 minutes last night going through my DSM favorites and couldnt find it. it also had program you could download and run.

"What is the coefficient of drag for a [DSM]?

Many questions of this type can be answered by the following references:

* A search of the Club DSM archives at Talon Digest Archive Search (alternate link here);
* Referring to the factory shop manual;
* Looking at the factory brochures;
* Reading the owners information manual.

The coefficient of drag for most DSMs is reportedly around 0.29-0.30. This applies to both 1G and 2G.

For more information on drag, read Mike Lester's post on the subject. "

I've seen a kid at my school with something like that on his n/t 2g. I thought it looked really tacky.

It's not really a spoiler, you need to apply these vortex generators individually, but it gets the job done. Vortekz.com: Vortekz Generators

Im surprised they dont make a whole thing for the 2g. They make them for neons. Not that it looks good though.

Has anyone ever seen a DSM with the Evo 9 shark fins? I'm talking about the ones on the roof that act like a spoiler. I would like to know if anyone knows a place that sells them.

I have a 95 GSX but it has no sunroof so I wanted to incorporate something that will give it a bit more aggressive roof line.

I've always liked the roof scoops myself that you see in the rally vehicles. I hate what they did to this eclipse but here are some examples:

Probably about as much sense as putting vortex generators on a car without the sharp drop-off in the roofline to the rear window that the Evo has.

If you like the roof scoop, then do it, its your car. I think I still have the one I bought a week after fast and the furious came out in the garage.

This thread has been posted too many times. Personally I'd never put vortex generators, a roof scoop, or anything of the sort on my car. But cars are an expression of the owner's likes and dislikes.

Hahaha like I stated above, it depends on your likes and dislikes. You were one, if not the first, to do the vortex generator on the 2g. I give you props for being original, I just dont want them, and never have.

Maybe post the link to your thread on how you did yours for the OP?
