hey guys i was driving home from work today and noticed that my brake light and battery light started to flicker. my car is running like crap since before this anyway. do you know what this could be???????

I'd definitely check the alternator but it doesn't have to 100% necessarily be the culprit. You could have a bad battery, a loose terminal, a corroded terminal, a ground wire off or something even simpler. Go to a parts store like Advanced Auto or Autozone and have them test the charging system as a whole. They'll do it for free.

This exact same thing happend to me a while back. My voltage read out on my turbo timer was down to like 10.x and what not. Luckily for me it started suddenly working again, but if it doesnt it's most likely your alternator.

battery light with car running means alternator or short. These cars also have a problem with a lamp fuse being blown causing a no charge situation.

funkbuster beat me to it....if your car starts doing wierd things like the headlights stay on when you turn them off.....or the interior lights don't work or the radio, defenelty check you alternator fuse....

One component will usually go out because another faulty component puts a strain on it. Take your alternator and your battery in to autozone and have them both tested. Whenever I have had electrical issues that point to the alternator or battery I change both.
