Value of DSMs these days

I was just wondering what bone stock, never modded examples of our 1g and 2g cars are going for these days. I haven't seen any in the classifieds, and have no idea where to ask. KBB is not going to see any added value in a rare unmolested DSM, so there pricing doesn't really hold any value to me. Thanks in advance

p.s. I have a red 92 AWD TSI, 5-spd., 6bolt/4bolt with tan leather interior, without sunroof, and is 100% completely stock, never modded with 125k miles, perfect compression, and I am the 3rd owner.

I talked to a guy that owns a car dealership when I was looking for my car. I wanted a 2nd gen awd. He told me that these cars are pretty hard to find, and have there own niche market. He said usually people will sell them to their friends or someone they know, and that makes them hard to get a hold of. He said the price is usually (2g) 1500-4500 for one with some sort of problem. But he has seen them as high as 9-10k, and still sell in less then a week.

Unless its a 2g in mint condition they are worthless, 1g's you wont be able to sell for more than 3k unless you have $10k plus in engine mods.
2g FWD wont go for more than 5k.
2g awd can go from 3k-14k, it seems like this is the only car that holds value with putting money into it.
The only problem is finding someone to buy it that would have that kind of money, not some pizzaboy that wants it. Everyone else that can afford it doesn't like them.

I've seen clean, stock or lightly modded 1g's go for $2500-$3500 in my area. In the end, it's about how much someone wants to pay for one. There's a lot of people who have the money and are willing to pay a premium for these cars. Especially those who don't know much about DSM's.

The value of any vehicle is really what you can get someone to pay for it. You set the price and if there is someone willing to pay it then thats its value.

The value of any vehicle is really what you can get someone to pay for it. You set the price and if there is someone willing to pay it then thats its value.

KBB doesn't show what collectors/enthusiasts market price is. Look up a never modded bone stock 98 Supra with 30k miles on KBB, and then look to see how much they are really selling for in the Supra community.

The OP is totally correct, KBB does not correctly show the value of our cars. I would just look in the classified and on dsmtrader.com and compare. That is the best place to start.

I bought a bone stock '90 AWD last summer for $1300. The tranny grinded second but it was mechanically perfect besides that. I felt as if I got a pretty good deal. But I also had a spare tranny and can swap them out myself.

I have an off topic question if i may: I was wondering, if you guys knew of a Supra website that is similiar to DSMTuners ( like the de facto website for Supra enthusiasts, the way DSMTuners is for Eclipses)

Now, don't worry, im not switching camps. Next year i plan to buy my my dream car which is a Supra 2JZ TT, but now for the reasons you guys expect. The reason i want to buy my dream car, is so i can make the SUpra my daily commuter and i can do even MORE with my Eclipse!( I have a lot left to do!)!! BWAHAHA im always a dsmer at heart :0 anywhoo if you guys can let me know that site.

I bought my mint 99 gsx with 89k miles for $7,800 in December of 2007.

Fully loaded, black leather, 100% stock down to the filter. Body/Interior was perfect. The dealer wanted $9,500.

It was really hard for me to decide to mod it or not, because it was in perfect mint condition. However since it was approaching 100k miles, and I got whooped by my friends stock IS300, I decided to mod it. Oh yea, its an automatic, which should have a higher resell value.

? Usually automatics on these cars sell for A LOT LESS. There are a bunch of auto gsxs for sale in the dc area that go for 6-9k. The manual ones (98-99 gsx with less than 100k) go for 11-14k usually. I got offered 15k for my gsx on trade in. For an s2000 that was selling for 22k with only 24,000 miles. I said no as I was only playing around looking at cars.

Don't buy the Supra then. As a TRUE Supra enthusiast myself, I'm begging you not to. If you even have the money for one (and I doubt it) then why not buy something else for a daily driver? Those cars are rare and only getting rarer. The fact that you referred to it as a "Supra 2JZ TT" tells me you know nothing about them, too. For the love of god stick to your DSMs, I'm begging you. I don't mean to offend you, even though I probably am, but let the Supras alone.


Back on topic: I agree totally that there really is no set value for one of these cars. I bought my Talon for $800 with some issues, I'll have put $900 into it probably all said and done, and I've been offered $3000 for it when it's fixed. I won't be selling it, but that gives me an idea of what it's worth.

I paid $2000 for 91 tsi. But it has a laundry list of issues I found after I bought it. I should have paid around 1700. But people say I still got a good deal.

After all of the searching I've done, I've found (in Canada at least) the 1Gs average at $1500-3000, and 2Gs at $4500-7000. most 1Gs are about $2500 and 2Gs at $8000, eve nthough there aren't many 2G AWDs for sale. The US market should be slightly cheaper though than the Canadian market, as it has always been.

I couldn't sell my roller for 1400$ with a brand new rebuilt shortblock and $2k in less than a year old aftermarket parts.
resell on dsm's is shit.

I agree with the kelly BB statements, they do not reflect the actual value of these vehicles....But I did buy my 95 AWD talon *MINT* condition, full options, with 82K for 3900 back in the beg of 03..... I also bought my mint 1993 Toyota Mr2 turbo with a few mods for $9000 which I talked the guy down from 11,500$ which they normally go for but KBB says they are only 6-7K Excellent condition

I got a running and driving complete virgin no rust 2g 95 talon awd 5spd with 121,900 on it for 1600.

Only needs the ac pump wire fised or pump replaced? Cant figure out which one.

If someone offered me 8k+ for it id take it. As it stand ill make my money back on it.






All in all if you find the right person some will pay 10-20k for one or you may get someone only to offer you 500.

It varies to much on what they are worth.

Where the demand is great you will get offered a great price. Just find somebody that really wants one.

A 99 GSX with a fully built motor does not have the same value to a 50 year old man than it does to a young DSM tuner.
