Using Copper Pipe for Intercooler Piping??

im a plumber and well copper disapate heat real quick i can solder a huge 4 inch pipe which take awhile to get up to temp but it cools very quickly. copper wont corrode for a year or so without anyprotection. and its plenty hard enough for intercooler piping spcially when people use aluminum and thats softer. they make any size copper really 1.5, 1.75, 2.0, 2.25, 2.5 it dont matter. for fititngs u can use fittings like 45s 90 street 45s, and street 90s. its great cuz the pipe fittings go over the the main pipe and is flush with the inside diameter through out. so there will me no more turbulance or restriction then using silcone couplings on aluminum or whatever. im gonan do mine in copper for free donated by my company ill polish and paint it with clear heat paint. sweetness!!!!

A company already makes something like this. Was reading about it in Turbo. A ball looking thing is positioned in the pipe with co2 running through it. They use them to cool lots of things like the fuel rail and people use a couple of them usually.

I have a question about the copper/steel tubing corroding and rusting. If you paint the outside how does that stop the corrosion on the inside?

the paint stops the outside from water and salts and whatever else may hit it. the inside as long as it doesnt get water and salt in it wont corrode as the air filter filters all the crap out. the oil from ## breather also will coat with a oil residue which will keep it from corroding also as long as you dont have a catch can. but this all the same with aluminum to. that will coorde also, well oxidize any ways. but everyone still uses aluminum and steel. the only perfect material is stainless but its heavy.

Not to mention condensation from all the heating/cooling. My old aluminized steel LIP had rust/scale on the inside welds (not painted/coated).

Remember that the LIP can be subjected to temps 300F+ depending on boost levels. So appropriate paint should be used :dsm:
 
So it seems like aluminum or ss, if you don't care about weight, would be the only good ways to go then. What if that rust flies into your intake or intercooler?
