Hi everone,

i live in europe and cant find any eclipse gs-t or gsx, so i was wondering what it takes to turbo a non turbo 4g63 (1995+) ?
Whats the hp i can expect to make and how much will it cost.
For instance if i swap all the cylinder heads to forged do i still need oil squirters?
Do the rods needs to be replaced to for 300+ hp?

Please let me know
thanks in advance

Here is a recent thread with some ideas: https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2gnt-want-to-add-turbo.536082/#post-153821611

However, this thread is for a 420A motor. Not sure if the car you are looking at or have bought is a 420A or a 4g63, so maybe update the thread if you do have a 4g63 and we'll find another way to help. Or if you need help identifying your engine or trim of car, refer to the resources page and that might be able to help as well.

I did some research and I think that Al the eclipse GS sold in Europe after 1995 where also with a 4g63. I got a picture from a 1995 eclipse. Think is a 4g63 not 100% certain.
And if it is. Is it the 7 bolt version?

i'm not sure if you have squirters on the NT engine, but it doesn't matter, just keep it the same as it is.

Do the rods needs to be replaced to for 300+ hp?
probably

the easiest thing would be to swap in a complete turbo engine with the turbo engine harness and ecu.
the main problem people have is, if your car has an immobilizer and swap the ecu, it doesn't want to start.
i haven't seen any posts that have a good solution for fixing it.

i'm not sure what the NT 4g63 can handle for boost but swapping the pistons and rods would be the way to go.
you can also use the pistons and rods from a eclipse or evo.

if your just looking to do an oem setup, you just need to get all the parts from a turbo car and swap them on your engine.
There are a few post on here about it.
Its possible to modify the NT harness if you have to.
so you would need all the turbo parts
manifold, turbo, 02 housing, downpipe. then the oil feed and return lines, coolant line to turbo
possibly the oil cooler,
, oil pan, intake and intercooler piping, intercooler, blow off valve,
ecu
and turbo fuel system stuff, like injectors, resister box, fuel pump

i might be forgetting some stuff but that all i can think of right now.

Thanks. I will do some more research about the power and boost it handles.
Are forged piston and rods the way to go or is it smarter to go with the stock evo's?

you could go with say, manley h beam rods and some je pistons and be good for at least 600hp but it'll cost almost $1000

evo pistons and rods are good for about 500hp.
so as long as you don't need to have the cylinders bored on your block, and you can find oem evo pistons and rods for a good price, that would be the way to go.
then you would just need to hone the cylinders, re-ringing the pistons and replace the bearings

Our N/A 7 bolt blocks (as well as 6 bolts) do have oil squirters in the exact same places as turbo blocks. I can supply photos if you need or you can check my build profile. I scavenged a 7 bolt N/A shortblock and put EVO 7 pistons and rods in it.

There are quite a few threads discussing this topic. If you're on a budget, you can get away with leaving your block unopened (depending on the mileage) and installing a stock T25 or even 14B turbo+manifold. Of course you'd put the other necessary bolt ons such as the injectors, a fuel pump or just a rewire to bring up the flow, and most importantly a stock turbo ECU. The stock AFR map has very rich cells at peak loads so that will help to cool off the AF mixture even more since the compression ratio on that motor is 10:1.

This is very broadly put, so I strongly recommend you keep reading through the forum here, as well as your local DSM forum if you're from Scandinavia or Germany for example.

Thanks krydon, that good news. i was planning for forged rods and piston for around 800,-. is that a smart move or just a stupid move. i am really new to this so i dont know a lot yet. im a planning to buy a gs this February. but its out of country so it need to be approved by the dutch laws. that cost couple hundred bucks, so i was planning to buy it and instantly turbo it and swap rods and pistons. Its just impossible for me to find any gst or gsx here in europe. the only ones i find are like 20k. Thats way to much for me. so as a european do u know what it really needs to get it to a 400-500 bhp car?
i already started researching some parts and everytime its a huge struggle to find the parts here. (in europe)
The thing i already find are.

Turbo ECU : ECMLink V3 Package (only America hopefully can be imported) $550,-
wastergate : RTMG Wastegate 17 psi spring (only america hopefully can be imported) $150,-
Clutch : stage 3 race clutch for 4g63t (ebay.com) $150,-
Exhaust Manifold : tubulair eclipse gs header (ebay.com) $130,-
Turbo : HOLSET TURBO HX35 (Here in the netherlands) $677,-
O2 housing : For real no idea where i can find one
Downpipe : Know it needs to be connected to o2 housing but cant find any here in europe
FMI : mishimoto m-line intercooler ( Here in netherlands) $225,-
BOV : do i really need one or can i just let him stututututu
Piping : dont know wich i what i need
Exhaust : porbably keping stock for now.
Mas : Cant find any here in europe. think the cost like 50 buck on ebay
Fuel PR : Cant find them either (i know i suck at searching prob :) but i think they also prob like 50 bucks
550 injectors : 550cc injectors (ebay.com) $100
Boost gauge : see them ranging from 20 - 150 bucks. no idea what a good brand.
Eft Gauge : Same as boost
Air to Fuel Gauge : same as boost
evo Piston & rods : find lots of diffrent ones ranging from 750 to 1250 bucks.
MLS Head gasket : 87 mm (here in the netherlands) $110,-

As u can see i cant find lots of things. and I dont know everything. I think this is everything i need but if i miss something please let me know.
got a budget of somewhere like 3-5k. the less the better ofcourse.
if any of the European guys know where i can find those thing or just has a gs-t or gsx blok for sale please let me know.
if there are suggestions to get to a 400-500 tune i would love to hear it.
Thanks a **** lot and hopefully i can build it next year.

i missed the fuel pump. thats prob gonna be a walbro 255 for $100. also able to buy here in the netherlands

I'm coming to NL to trade a Civic to a guy for another car next week. Maybe I can find you a decent GS LOL. There is a GS converted to turbo here for sale for 5k euros with ECMLink v3 lite. Also from what I know, if you import a car from another EU country it shouldn't be a problem since the RDW only looks at documents and not mods?

Anyway, I strongly advise you to search for as many parts as you can here from the EU because you will be paying ~20% VAT + import tariffs on anything you buy from the US. You would be lucky to find the full ECMLink package at $700, with maybe another 150-200 euros to cover shipping and tax. That's how much I paid 3 months ago for mine.

Clutch for $150? Forget about it. Decent clutch kits especially for your power goals are way more and shipping would be as much if not more because of the weight.
O2 housings you can have custom made or buy 2nd hand. Whole exhaust and intake systems you can also have custom made which may end up cheaper and better quality.
Wastegates and BOVs you can find here either new, used or chinese replicas.
The MAF is the same exact unit on a GS and turbo ("609 MAF").
550cc injectors for those power levels will be insufficient; they will be maxed out. Lowest you should go is 650cc in my opinion.
The HX35 is a great proven turbo and you could probably have someone make you a twin scroll tubular collector for it for about 500-600 euros.
Fuel pump should be very easy to find as well as an aftermarket FPR, look at a proven performance parts specialist in NL I'm sure they will have all those in stock.
Same for boost gauges and Wideband O2 sensors.
MLS gasket may not be needed depending on how you want to seal your block and what your engine builder recommends.
By EVO 7 pistons and rods I meant the stock ones which you should be able to find for very cheap. If you are buying aftermarket look at Wiseco/JE/Eagle etc.

Again, my personal advice is to first get the GS, inspect all other systems and in the meanwhile start building up a modified engine to later swap in. 3-5k euros especially for the Netherlands is not a lot of money for these types of parts UNLESS you buy everything used and if you do 90% of the work yourself. Just being real here.

They are F5M31-2s, allegedly with weaker and smaller internals but otherwise identical bellhousings and dimensions. They lack the 3 breather ports on top. But yes, he'd also need to think about at least swapping in a GS-T trans. I've heard some EU folks using boxes and gearsets from other Mitsus but I can't back it up; haven't done it myself.

Im planning to do it al myself. my uncle has a fully modified lancia delta hf (450hp). made all himself and he said he would help when its needed. so tools place and even hydrolic lift i have avalible combined with a very intellegent brain. the only thing i have to do is fix all te parts needed and he will be supervising me. i am very new to the eclipse world so dont know really the place to find cars. u got a link of a good site for europe. im willing to drive pretty far for it.

That car thats for sale. u got a link by any chance?
maybe i will do trip to bulgaria to pick it up.
