Hmmmm...Ive just put my new EVO III 16G in and I was running like around 14lbs of boost on the STOCK fuel system. Is this ok? I didn't notice ANY knock. Everything seems to be running REALLY strong, im getting full boost by 3000 rpm. The only thing is, last night I went out to log some runs and the damn thing creeped up to 19-20 psi by accident. It did this for only a second. My car seems to still be running ok. My engine internals are stock. It was colder last night than usual? Could this have been the reason why it spiked so high? Usually it never has boost creep, and it limits itself nicely at 14 psi. Also, I have 650s, and an SAFC II that I haven't put in yet. I don't plan on running BIG boost until I put those in. Im using the stock fuel pump as well. Once I put in the 650's + SAFC II how much boost will able to run with the stock fuel pump and stock regulator?

The only reason I haven't put the 650's in, along with the SAFCII, is because the car has a really annoying oil leak and Im trying to find out wtf is going on. Its leaking near the oil filter housing. I've just recently had the oilpan off to remove the balance shafts. Its probably just the damn oil pan gasket (used rtv).

I used 550's with my EVO and ran 18 psi on 93 pump just fine. i have run 22 PSI on 112 leaded and it screamed! Motor has 105k so I took it easy. Used a wideband and a maf-t & scanmaster. mark

hmm looks like my boost controller is fux0red. It only start spiking after I adjusted it. It used to always stay at a stead 14 psi. Now no matter what it will jump up to 20 psi, even if I back it all the way out. So I yanked the piece of crap and just pluged the manifold line directly into my wastegate. Now it perfectly limits it at 10psi, so I can just wait until this weekend when i will instill the new 650 cc injectors with the SAFCII (w00t). Kick arse! :thumb:

my boost gauge spikes to 20 also with my Evo III B16g...Time for a new boost gauge i suppose though.

Do u have an aftermarket boost gauge? I know that my stock boost gauge reads like 14 psi when I'm at like 9 psi. Its pretty inaccurate. I've tried autometer, and vdo gauges, and my boost switching from one to the other is always the same (accurate). The stock guage is truly worthless.

I seem to be having the same problem. I have an Evo III 16G turbo and i set the boost to 15 lbs but it always creep to 20. I live in MN so it getting cold out now and my boost creeps to 25 lbs. I hate the creep. So annoying.

yes these turbos are known for there boost creep, only way to fixs it is get an electronic boost contoller and upgrade the flapper to a 34mm, thats what I have been told. I bought this turbo when it first came out, and in my opinion its a big waste of money (should have gone with a 50 trim)

WHy do you think it's a big waste of money? For me it was a stock replacement.

Spiking and boost creep are competly different!

Does your boost go to the 14psi then go up and keep going up? Or does it go up to the 20 psi then come back down to the 14?

Also stock fuel pump, ditch it now. Get a 190 or 255.

The evo 16g is a turbo that can go 11's and has been proven over and over. Its not a waste of money and i actuall ymight upgrade from my small to the evo. So if you want to sell it, i may have a buyer.

Leave the boost low till you get a fuel pump and put in those injectors/afc And tune it!

That's what I'm saying man. The E3 16G is substantially larger than your stock 14b, not to mention that you are trying to play with the boost level. At 14 psi you are pretty much at 100% duty cycle on the stock injectors and you're totally maxing out the stock pump. You need to get a pump now so you can install it with your injectors and AFC. I recommend the 190 if you are staying with a stock regulator b/c it won't really mess with your fuel pressure and you can low throttle tune with your fuel trims...it's just a lot easier to deal with.

As for your boost problem I recommend trying an electronic boost controller. When I bought my Profec-B it solved my similar problem.
