I have a leaking transmission that I can't find where the leak is coming from. It gets transmission fluid all over the chassis brace that runs front to back on the passenger side. It drips off that too. There is also a small amount on the transfer case (more towards the fill plug) and some right on the underside of the transmission. A small amount drips out of the clutch slave cylinder rubber piece that goes into the transmission but I don't think that is where the leak is coming from (correct me if i am wrong). The only place it drips down though is off the brace. I think it is the transmission leaking at least. It doesn't seem like it would be the TC because that is always full and the transmission gets low. I hate to see some good GM Syncromesh goto waste! PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks in advance :thumb:

Maybe it's oozing out of the seal where the shift lever shaft goes into the tranny? The only other thing I can think of is the joint where the bellhousing bolts to the rest of the tranny case.

Well its not the shift lever. Its more too the back of the transmission where the leak is. Where the bellhousing bolts to the rest of the tranny case; is that a big project? Its just a gasket in there correct? Thanks!!!

It leaks more to the back of the tranny? I though you said there was some oil on the rubber boot by the slave cylinder?

There is, but it doesn't drip off that. It drips off the back of the tranny so I am assuming that the leak is the worst back there? I hope its just an axle seal...

Airflow when driving tends to push oil rearwards. Plus the tranny is tilted slightly, so gravity would pull oil back before it dripped. I don't think an axle seal leak would show up at the front of the tranny, but a leak at the front will flow back. Of course, it could be leaking in both places. yay...

Ok, thanks I checked under the car again today. It looks like its all coming from behind the rubber gasket thing that goes to the transmission from the slave cylinder. Is I looked in there and I really didn't see anything leaking visually. I could be wrong though. Is there anything in there that could be leaking?? Thanks!

Update: I just took the car for a spin and looked under it again. I am pretty sure its coming from the slave cylinder . There is alot of fluid on the gasket that goes into the transmission.

I can take the slave cylinder pushrod that hits the metal thing that goes into the tranny and literally push in the pushrod with my hand. I can push it in very easy and far enough so that i can take the gasket off the tranny. Is it supposto do that?

HELP!!!

Don't freak out, the slave rod will push in easily. Just make sure it comes back out. To check the slave cylinder for leakage pull the rubber boot back and see if there is fluid there. Just to make sure, I'm not talking about the rubber boot that is on the tranny, just check the boot attached to the slave. How is the clutch fluid level? Has it dropped at all? Compare the color of the leaking fluid to the clutch hydraulic fluid, and compare it to the tranny fluid.

The clutch fluid level is about halfway down in the master cylinder. It is the same color basicually. I pulled the boot back briefly and didn't see much but I could be wrong. I haven't filled the master cylinder latly so maybe I should and watch and mark it. The clutch takes brake fluid though correct? I tasted it (I know I shouldn't taste it but it looked soo good! LOL j/k)and it didn't taste like brake fluid but the brake fluid in my resievor needs changed anyways so that could change it.

my 93 is doing the same exact thing! I am guessing it is the input shaft seal. i am pulling my tranny soon so hopefully that is the problem.

also does your clutch slip at all. because if you have fluid coming out of the tranny from that boot, then the cluth housing is wet. you do not wanna wet clutch.OMG :talon:

The 2100 would slip on an AWD if it got oil on it. Tranny oil is very slippery.
Yes the clutch hydraulic fluid is the same as brake fluid, DOT 3 or 4.

I have the same problem, lots of oil all over the trans and xfer case. I used the black light oil dye and found that the leak is motor oil coming from around where the slave cylinder is. I have a ACT 2600 with NO slipping, but....

I think this could be the solution:

Only problem is I have NO idea where they are talking about! Can anyone here help?

TIA

That sounds just like what is happening on my car. Mine might be oil (i think it smells like it maybe), but I am not sure. I will read that tonight. Thanks for the link

Update: Fixed it!! I was getting sick of dealing with it so I brought it somewhere where I could use a hoist. All it was was tranny fluid leaking out of where a bolt was supposto be under the gear shift selector. Thanks for all the help!!
