Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone knows how or why this could have happened? My transmission cracked all the way around the mounting location for my slave cylinder. Not a small crack, I mean it is probably 8" long and completely broke out the mounting for the slave.

How could this have happened? I had all 4 bolts in the transmission, the tranny mount and all motor mounts are good, and I have both of my dowels in the transmission as well.

Has anyone heard of this happening before, or do I just have some random bad luck?

This happens when the TOB fork is hitting the bell housing. The pressure from this is huge and will break the case. This happens when:

1) The clutch master is not adjusted correctly and doesn't return excess fluid back into the reservoir. The system will then slowly pump up pressure at the slave and the slave will push more and more to the left until it starts hitting the case.
2) The pivot ball needs to be shimmed as the fork is sitting too far to the left and hitting the housing.
3) The flywheel step height is too tight and the pressure plate fingers are not pointing away as they should.

Jack, Once these issues are fixed, would it be worth it to have the case welded up, or just trash it and look for a new transmission?

I am assuming that even after proper welding has been completed, that this transmission would not be accepted as a core for exchange?

its worth fixing i had a problem like that years ago, in 95 when i didnt put my dowel pins in get it welded i have a buddy who can weld anything fixed my transmission.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to use that case for another customer, so it wouldn't be a good core for us. Customers get upset if we send them a welded core.

We have very good welding capabilities here, so if you want to ship that unit to us, have us fix the case, and ship it back, I can warranty the welding repair for life. We charge $85 an hour, and it could take 1-2 hours for that kind of repair, plus shipping. Once we weld a case here, it never breaks again, so I wouldn't worry about the reliability.
