I am thinking of picking up a 90 AWD rolling chassis that needs a motor/tranny/transfercase.

Question is about tranny selectoion. Which one standard 1G tranny (22 spline) or 2G tranny and transfer case (23 spline)

Thanks,

i would stick with the 1g tranny. the 2g tranny uses different motor mount points. Unless you are up to customizing the motor mounts points to 2g. I think there is also a different part on the engine you have to change too, but forgot the name of it right now. I know i have to swap this out cuase i am doing a 6bolt into my 2g auto.

Edit: I might be wrong about the part on the engine, if someone else that has done this on 6 bolt swap and can correct me on this, please do.

There are three mods that I have read you have to do.

1. Starter mount bolt holes in the dust sheild have to be bored out a bit because of location.

2. Bend the shift cable guide

3. (optional) remove the ballast weight

correct me if im wrong, but didnt they introduce the 23 spline in like 93 or 94 as the 6/4 combo.

I would look for a 1g tranny and not mess with anything. the trannies are basically the same and like to malfunction.
