What tires should I get? I have 17X7.5 rims on a 98 GS-T, I was looking at getting Yokohama AVS Sport, Pirelli P7000 SuperSport or Potenza S-03 Pole Position. Any suggestions? Also what size? They recommend a 215/45/17, I was thinking of a 225/45/17, what size will fit? Thanks for any input.

Those are good tire choices and you can go as big as 245/45/17.

Later,

If you haven't bought your tires yet don't get 245-45ZR17 unless you dont want to know at what speed you're going. The ouside diameter is way bigger than the original tires. For a 1998 GS-T the exact height for 17" is 222-45ZR17 so go with the closest that exists ... 225-45ZR17 that way you speedometer won't be too much off but be carful because you'll be going a bit faster than your speedometer indicates! Tire companies always go with smaller diameter tires 215-45ZR17 so this way you'll be going slower than what is indicated on your speedometer.

Hope it's not too late !

I would go with the SO-3's. That is going to be my next set of tires. I have RE730's now and I am pretty pleased with them. They grip well, let go predictably and are quite stable. They are a bit noisy after wearing a bit, but from what I have seen, the SO-3's do not suffer from the noise like the 730's do.

I have heard the Yokos grip well and wear okay, but if I remembering all these brands correctly, also suffer from excessive noise. My suggestion is to go to the www.tirerack.com and read the reports there. The SO-3's took the #1 spot on the survey of people driving on them--over the more expensive Michelins, etc. Let us know what you decide.

If you want to save some money, you could go with Kumho Ecsta Supra tires. Perform very well wet or dry, Z rated, and at the right places you should be able to pick up a set for $400 or less. I have Kumho's, and they ride so much nicer than my stock tires.

I found this on dsm.org, hope this helps!!!

I am running 225/45/17's is that wrong? According to the chart from gstspyder1998 should I have 235/40/17, 225/45/17, or 215/45/17 ?

If this effects the speedometer by how much does it effect it? How wide does the rim have to be to fit a 235/40/17 on it properly?

Just to let you know that the chart was not done by me, I just copied what they had on dsm.org!!! :) I'm kinda confused too because I'm also running 225/45/17's on my car!!!

The Pirelli P7000s are an awesome tire that lasts forever. The Yokohamas are good too, but I prefer the P7000. Never used those Potenza's, but I know the stock Potenza's form my 96 GSX lasted all of 15K miles before metal was showing through. Made that mistake twice.

I'd go for 225/45. On a 7.5" rim, they'll look sweet.
