ok so someone did my timing belt n i noticed its rubbing somewhere and the belts like all the way to the engine side , runs good, my idler pulley looks weird, i have a pic of it, also why would my fluidampr be rubbing against the timing cover? is there a washer between the dampr and crank sprocket that i forgot about? pics are below

You may not find someone with a pic, but mine touched pretty much everywhere in a circle all the way up to the timing marks on the left. I had to remove that whole area below that.

So you basically have to cut a giant 7" circle around the entire damper?

Basically yes. I trimmed it twice and it still rubbed so I said f*** it and just took a ton off. not saying you should but that's what I did. It was for sure rubbing the raised ribs on the cover.
I recently filed my 6-bolt lower tb cover down to clear my Fluidamper. It broke my heart to do this to a fresh new oem part, but it had to be done. I basically had to file it totally flush and completely eliminated the rib protrusion to avoid the rubbing.

I have been wondering about this rubbing issue, because I have two fluidamprs but somehow they don't rub at all on my 1g. There should be some reason why not rubbing in my case. I could be wrong but my guess for now is the design difference between the black and the gray timing cover. Maybe the black cover has a lower rib? My 1g has the black timing cover. I have a new gray cover, too. I should compare when I have time.

This is why the Fluidampr rubbing issue doesn't happen on everyone. The both black and gray cover show the same part number on back. (I have one more 6 bolt cover from a different car w/ a different part number and that doesn't have the rib neither) I could be wrong but I guess all the 6 bolt gray cover has the rib and the black cover has two versions with and without the rib.

And here's evidence that it isn't all gray covers. It would appear that Mitsubishi revised the design at some point, adding the rib, and Fluidamper didn't get the memo.

Search tags: MD141454, MD141459, MD141461

All that can be said, Fluidamper users beware, modifications may be necessary.

Just to add (and confirm the post above) to this if anyone is on the hunt in the future, I ordered a new cover that had the raised rib. Went and looked at my original and the rib is not there. This is a 90 talon, all original. Odd to think that the original design did not have the rib, then it was added and again taken away. Unless these newer covers are from another source like the Hyundai and are being sold as 1g covers?
