I'm gonna try to be as complete and accurate as possible. I'm helping a buddy chang the timing belt on a 99 2.0 non turbo eclipse. we got it all back together and it starts up but idles really crappy, it kind of idles in waves like (this is gonna look dumb, but you'll get the idea) vrm:vrm:vrm:vrm. and the whole engine rocks back and forth real bad. when he gives it gas it continues to do this only faster until about 5k rpm and then it sounds normal and quits vibrating. but when the rpms come back down it just runs crappy again. thanks in advance for your help....we're gonna be working on it all day probably.

Should check the timing to make sure it isn't off a tooth or two. Yeah guys I don't know why injector wiring would be loose since you shouldn't be touching that while doing a timing belt job.

Bring the motor back to TDC and recheck ALL your marks, the idle sounds like a tooth off on one of the cams. (I've had the same problem once, ended up being the intake cam off a tooth) Check the BS alignment for the rocking problem and take a look at those motor mounts if the engine looks to rocking excessively. VFAQ.com has the best instructions if you don't have a OEM Manual.
