This is just one of the many projects I keep going In my garage. And this has to be the most abused clucth I've ever seen. The project started because the clutch was slipping. Was checking the main seal when this was seen:

That pressure plate is in WAY worse shape than the one that came out of my first DSM but weirdly the friction disc is much better. Did the clutch get full of sand? I don't even know how one can wear that much material off of the pressure plate!
 
Looks like someone wore the original disc to the rivets and then just replaced the disc.
The car only has 80k miles on it. So your theory would make sense if it had more, but there's no way the car ate up 2 clutches in 80k miles. Plus, a new clutch kit was $60, so what kind of a cheap ass would only replace the disc?
