Alright, I've done some searching on this clutch (listed the best threads i could find below to make it easier for some people). From what I'm seeing, it looks to be a great alternative to the ACT's (with the problems they've been having lately). I'm personally debating on what to go with and this clutch has caught my eye but now my debate is the stage 2 or 3? Maybe something higher?

I'm seeing some guys using it that have N/T's or FWD's. But I'm AWD and I'm building a stroker setup and wanna make sure this thing can not only hold the torque but do it upon repeated hard launches and still last awhile, yet hopefully be streetable (like the 2600 before the problems started coming about).

I'm looking at www.titanmotorsports.com and they can have it shipped to my door for just $307 for a stage 3. I'm not seeing much feedback on these things though other than people saying,"I like mine," or the torque it's suppose to hold, etc. Just not much being said really that I'm looking for. What I'm hoping to hear is how many miles people have on them, how often they launch with them and their et's, mods done to the car, and maybe hear how well the engagement is for daily driving compared to other puck disc. I'd like to hear that some guys with big HP numbers would suggest it. Not just mostly stock guys cause being stock isn't my concern. Some people say it's a bit grabby (except for the stage 2) like an ON/OFF switch. Others say it's fine. What's the difference between the stage 3 or 4 or even the 5? They're all pucks correct? Do the friction surfaces account for how grabby (or streetable) it is, how many pucks, or both?

Lastly, I'm reading about being able to lighten the pressure plate??? Is that right? Already have a Fidanza and I'm getting my crank knife edged. Does this take away from the durability of the pressure plate? I've never heard it being done on the pp. But I'd figure that taking off even more weight would really help my motor to rev quick.

Thanks for any and all input you guys and vendors have about this product. Oh and please keep the,"I like my ACT clutch," comments off this thread unless you're comparing the two. This isn't a thread about how much you like ACT like some of the threads below had become.

1) I've got over 4k miles
2) I just started dragging, but my sights are going to the dragstrip once a month/2months. Best 60' so far with this clutch is 2.4" and that was my first time ever at the dragstrip.
3) mods are in the profile; evoIII is on the way from SBR, MR dp is on the way, tubular manifold on the way, o2 w/ atmospheric dump on the way, walbro 190 on the way.
4) I'm not running "big" hp right now but I'm aiming for 300-350hp at the crank.

i've been doing nothing but researching this clutch for most of the day. apparently you CAN get the pressure plate lightened. haven't found out how much weight you'd save. also for the 420A guys, there's an aluminum pressure plate that says it can clamp just as hard, if not harder than the steel pressure plates. don't see that being offered for us 4g63 guys but just getting it lightened would be good i suppose.

also too, i'm seeing they have a stage three+ kit as well. suppose to clamp harder than the stage three and better drivabilty. but just don't know if they sell that one for dsm's or not.

also, if ya'll wanna check it out, their website is here...

Subject: SPEC Info

Just wondering if ya'll make (or plan on making) the Stage Three+ kit
for 89-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse's. Thanks!
scott

i had forgotten to ask how much weight they can take off the pressure plate so i e-mailed them back about that. i'll post it up if i can find out more info. also asked why anyone would want the stage 3 if the stage 3+ offers better clamping and better drivability. my guess is cost. guess we'll see.

guess i'll be the main one contributing to my thread. oh well, hope it's helpful for ya'll. alright, more info....

Scott

At this time we only offer the lightened press.plate option. It lightens the plate by 20% (which would be about 3-4 lbs.). The cost of this option is $79.00.

Thanks,

and this one about getting the stage 3+ clutch....

The p/n is SM483F and the price is $509.00. The clutch is rated @ 525 ft/lb torque @ the flywheel.

I also have a Spec clutch with the lighweight flywheel they offer. I love it. Its a stage 5 but with a full faced disk so it is great on the street and it grabs like non-other. I have about 3k on mine with no problems to speek of. I have not had it it the track at all but i have launched hard several times with no slipping to speek of.

I wonder which would be better. A stage 3+ or stage 5? Since they say the stage 3+ is like a stage 5 but with drivabilty (if not better) like a stage 3. Either way, I'll be spending the $600 for the stage 3+ with the lightened pressure plate and I'll post reviews....when I can get em.

I have this clutch, and was one of the first one's to get it. The shop I work with, Dynotime, stuck the prototype in my car. This clutch is just awesome. Pedal pressure is almost stock with the stainless line installed, and the clutch grabs just incredibly. I've launched it with the DSMLink stutterbox at 5,000 a few times, and it just hooks precisely. The disk is a very strange setup, as half of it is a seven puck, and half of it is a disk. I've put about 3,000 miles on it so far, but broke my ankle a few weeks ago, so I can't put any more miles on it just yet. The only downside I had with this clutch was that it chattered a bit while it was breaking in, but that went away at about 1,500 miles. I can't say enough good things about this clutch. SPEC supposedly designed this specifically to address the crankwalk concerns of DSMers, and even included a redesigned throw out bearing with the unit. The whole setup was like nothing I'd ever seen, but was vaugely reminiscent of a CFDF 2500 Ball bearing setup, but much more robust. I got rid of my ACT 2600 in favor of this setup, and am very glad that I did.

I wish I had a better pic of the clutch, but appears to be the only one I could find, and that's when we were dropping the motor in. I'm the dumbass on the right. The guy on the left is Phil Beers, who I could not have finished my car without.

Matt.

My stage 3 slips sometimes when I launch off the stutterbox at anything over 10psi on a cold clutch. Once it gets some heat in it, it grabs no matter what. I've got about 14,000 miles on mine now.

If you'll click on the Spec website, the featured product right now is the Stage 3+ which has a pretty nice picture of it.
