Sad day, the original motor to my car i have owned 13 years let go today. This motor was the numbers matching vin to my car that went threw so much abuse and different set ups and learning to tune on back in the late 2000's. Lived for so many years at 400+whp and 1 year around 500. We pull it and put it in a almost stock auto car. 170k miles just arp studs otherwise 100% oem never apart. 14b logging bout 30lb/min only 14 degrees of timing on E30, and now it decides to die.. Cracked the block and all. Interested to tear it down and see what happened.

That's what we think. The guy who's car we put it in has been in the dsm game longer then me and owns a very nice built dsm too. It cracked the block right by the dipstick hole. We are very confused, yes the motor was pushed hard in its past life in my car. It was put into this car for retirement. He said before it went wideband was right on target oil pressure was great then boom under wide open. Will be interesting tearing it apart and seeing if we can tell what caused this.

We will see when we tear it down what happened. Possibly could be a rod maybe they where very fatigued from the years of close to the limit.

uhhh cracked block......very shitty.....:toobad:

I still have a 10inch hole from throwing a rod thru the front of my 420a 98 RS, 2yrs ago and I'm still driving it, still runs strong, no oil leaks, no damage to cylinder walls, but damage to the crank, will be sourcing a short block replacement but not til my GSX build is done

Holy crap man is that JB weld to fill the hole back up? You been driving it for 2 years on 3 cylinders? Both those things are crazy but hey if its all you got to drive and funds are limited I get it. Gotta do what you gotta do

All cylinders work just fine replaced piston and rod and still have 170psi thru each cylinder and yes that is jb weld steel stick took 5 of them but is rated for 4500 psi so the no way this engine will make any where near that amount of psi in oil pan area but yeah it holds nicely

More focused on my gsx right now but it gets me from point a to point b it's my daily

Well spare motor was torn down and found to have crank walked. It was rebuilt before has .020 replacement pistons. Block touched crank and all. Will dig out another spare motor now. The car the motor came from was a parts car that had clutched adjusted incorrectly. Likely had constant force on the thrust surface.

Dam.....that really sucks. All from a piss poor clutch adjustment. One of the 1st things I do is dis-able the clutch switch so no dry startups and pushing in on the clutch before oil is present.
Watching to see if we get any pictures of the OG motor. :)

Motor will be pulled this weekend maybe. All the parts are ordered and found a good block and crank. Also starting a 2.4L high compression build for a 6466 fwd car LOL.

Been super busy. Buddy SCORED some 1g's this weekend. Picked up a 92 tsi awd 5spd car. rust free 100% stock blue with tan leather interior. Oh right it only has 55k miles on it. $1,700 and it came with a 93 5spd fwd eclipse with built motor missing trans a few odds and ends but also had black leather interior.

Sounds like a big win!

First look into the pan. No signs of spun bearing. Almost looks like piston came apart around wrist pin.

Appears it lost the head gasket. Likely was pushing fire ring out from years of abuse by me. Finally said no more and blew out into coolant ports and coolant went into cylinder.

I noticed that all the rod bolts looked like they survived leading me to think the cylinders might have hydrolocked and broke the rods. thats all just my assumption.

I agree all the cylinders look fine accept for the one where the gasket blew out and into the coolant ports. That's a real shame. I am assuming the gasket was close to letting go from me over the years pushing stupid amounts of timing on e85 before i knew better. Surprisingly the crank journals look great a polish would clean it up. Makes me wonder if i sent it out to be checked and knife edged to take care of the damage on counter weight if it would be a usable crank again.
