Oh man, I know exactly what you did now! That's some ingenious thinking and probably works even better than the actual tool! :hellyeah:

Are you welding it, or using it as a two piece? :aha::sneaky:

So turns out my phone was dying again last night and when I realized it I only had about 3% and a dark screen to take pictures with. The only ones I'm going to post are of the tool since the others are pretty out of focus or just bad shots in general.
    Screenshot_20200401-112531~2.png Screenshot_20200401-112544~2.png Screenshot_20200401-114740~2.png

So this is the tool I made. After using it all I can say is if I could have started with about a 1 inch smaller shank on the screw driver and about a 1/2 inch longer bolt to weld on it would have been alot more user friendly. That being said it worked fine, maxed the threads out just as it pushed the lever down enough to get ths pin out. Also I had to turn it with an akward position since it was sticking straight back next to the master cylinder (too long of shank). Because of the limited positioning i now have a blister the size of a dime on my finger haha. Over all I think I finished my timing belt install. I'm on the high side of tollerances with the adjuster, all of my marks line up now after 2 sets of 6 rotations of the engine. After the first 6 I realizied I didnt have my rockers and lifters back in from the cleaning and oil soaking. So I went ahead and bleed them and installed them back into the head. And thats where I finished last night. After the last 6 rotations and no valves restriction movment of pistons I called it a night.

During this I noted a few things. First, I'm pretty sure the timing belt and water pump were done prior to this thing being parked for 8 years. It had new looking coolant in it, the water pump gasket was bright blue with very little dirt or grime on it, and all of the bearings and belts look new with little wear. The only thing that looked dirty was the tensioner.

Second thing noted, after draining the radiator the water pump still has about a gallon of coolant sitting behind it in the coolant tube just waiting for a unsuspecting victim to pull the water pump off while being drowned underneath of the car on Jack stands.

Tonight I'll be working on ths house, I'll try and take a few pictures of the engine and belt to post on here.

Well I spent my weekend right for once. Screenshot_20200406-073858~2.png
She loves to "work on daddys car" which normally consist of her picking up random tools and beating on it . . . but she is learning. With timing belt components laying around I had her sit this session out haha. I didnt take a whole lot of pictures but alot got done. It started with going back and readjusting my timing belt tensioner since I estimated it around the .19 area of clearance, I wanted to get it down atleast were it should be. Once I did that I spun the engine over to make sure everything still lined up. After that I finished the install I moved to the clutch system.
    Screenshot_20200406-073905~2.png Screenshot_20200406-073910~2.png
I finished the routing of the SS line, hooked up the slave and master cylinder, and installed my "new" used but much cleaner resivor and rubber hose. Topped off the fluid and started bleeding. It wasnt too terrible, I didnt time it but id say 15 to 20 mins. once that was done I moved to the inside of the car to put my ecu back in. thats when i made some chances to the Mitsubishi engineering.
    Screenshot_20200406-082306.png
i don't see why they would cover up a bolt on the passenger side with this plastic piece.

Well I guess thats reaility knocking back at me saying screw your racing season. . . . . my excitment to hear one lifter after another become more quite was turned to horror when I got out of the car and walked around to the engine bay, I had thought I heard a different sound and I was right. . . . . I contemplated my next steps last night while laying in my living room floor, every light turned out, with my 3000 watt sound system playing buddy Holly radio on Pandora trying to lift my spirits.. . . . . while laying there I was bouncing the idea of doing a rebuild on the car or pushing it out and pulling my spirit rt into the garage for its engine rebuild ( broke cylinder 4 rod in half under light throttle 2 weeks after I got it February 2019) its been sitting in my drive way every since. So if this build goes cold look for another vechical profile on a RT haha. If that happens id say this car will get put off til the fall of this year. Hard to say whats going to go on. I think my next step is to drop the pan and check to see how bad it is.

Well looks like I'm going to have a fun summer of not racing my eclipse.
This just pushed the house to priority number one, I will occasionally work on the cars to stay sane but working on them will slow to maybr one day a week. My plan is to work on getting the engine pulled in the next month or so, maybe by that Time ill have the other bay in my garage cleaned out. Then I'll pull the spirit in and pull the engine on it as well. I'll be making a profile for that turd so I can stay somewhat active on here.

Here are some pictures of the sh** show. Fubny how cylinder 4 spun a rod on yhe eclipse and cylinder 4 rod broke on the spirit. . . . . looks like I have found my enemy on 4 bangers.

FUN = having 1 DSM down with a knocking engine
1 dodge spirit rt with a broken cyl 4 rod
1 73 superbeetle waiting for a frame transplant (frame is sitting next to the car waiting for me to finish some welding)
1 73 superbeetle needing a tube chassis built for it
and having very little time to play with them because I wanted to build my own house.:ohdamn:

I love working on my own stuff but id much rather be driving some of it haha. I promised myself that I wouldn't buy anything else until I fixed the crap I have lying around. As far as my race season, I'm guessing im not going to compete this year unless its in my 300 again. or I break my own promise and buy some sh**box to thrash on.

Its been a long weekend, the internal fight between what to do with my new knowledge of the broken engine was put on the back burner as I used 90% of the drywall I had laying next to my car. I filled my garage with all the construction supplies I had in my living room. during the weekend I hit a brick wall with the eclipse, im not sure if it was just pure unmotivation or if it was due to being burnt out from working on the house. sunday I crawled under the car to put the caps back on the rods, and put the oil pan on so I could push out the eclipse. without getting one cap on I crawled back out and shut the lights off for the day, went home and played forza. . . . . another chilling event..... I played with the Alfa romeo c4 a few races first before getting into my trusty eclipse, hopefully I bounce back from this setback, the only good thing I have going for me is since one garage bay is filled with building supplies and the other has an eclipse on jacks and the oil pan off, there is no room for me to bring the spirit in, which means hopefully I can get motivated to work on the eclipse before I pull in the spirit and start on it.

Well. . . . I'm driving myself insane, at work we are so slow I get to search for vechicals all day online. Ive came close to trading my 18 Cherokee, 06 300c,00 dakota multiple times . . . . ive also looked into selling the eclipse, parting it out, fixing it, upgrading it, changing it to a v8 :ohdamn:. . . . . currently all I know is when I'm at home ive been keeping myself busy with pulling the engine and trans. Screenshot_20200416-153815~2.png
I bought some roll around car dollies the other day from harbor frieght, ive wanted a set for years now, I have 2 non adjustable ones and 2 that lift the car. They came in handy turning the car to have more room for the engine hoist.
    Screenshot_20200416-153831~2.png
This was my stopping point last night, the bolt is seized in the bushing, I hammered on it enough to get ths head about an 1/8 " away from the fork. I'll take a saw to it tonight and hopefully get it out.
    Screenshot_20200416-153825~2.png
Also last night was the death of my breaker bar. The driver side axle nut was so tight.

If you have access to an air hammer I would suggest trying that before using the saw. I had a few lower suspension bolts that wouldn't budge with traditional hammering.. they didn't stand a chance when I put an air hammer on them.. came out in seconds.

One quick swipe and the head was off. Then I hammered it out fairly easy from the front.

Well. . . . not excited about having to pull this. But its done now so all I can do is complain to whoever will listen haha. Still on the fence weather to part it out or fix it. I'm thinking the safest bet is to get it back on its tires and push it outside so that I have time to think.

Well....... after a long process of thought, mood swings, and a bit of rage, I have decided to move up in class. street touring here I come. More than likely this car will be down til next spring but atleast it gives me time to do the job right. ill be honest, its going to be hard not to sell this thing once I see events opening up and watching people have fun with there cars, but ive made commitments before, so Looks like im in for the long haul. I will say that I still may pull in the spirit and work on it first but I have not fully made up my mind on that yet.

Well sh**, posted the car for sale just to see how much attention it would get and ended up driving 7 hours round trip to pick up a short block for it. Looks like I'm back in business for a while. Thank you Willie for the great deals. That guy is awesome.

Well its been a while since ive been on here.
    Screenshot_20200504-211206~2.png
Saturday I pushed the car out of the garage to give me more room to move stuff around.
    Screenshot_20200504-211155~2.png
I tarped it today cause apparently the driver side still leaks a little bit.
Ill more than likely start taking the engine down once I get a free work bench in the garage. Until then I'm just living life, havent really been working on anything lately. I did make up my mind not to sell it. I still feel love when I look at it. Its just bitter sweet right now.
