The way Illinoisans drive has turned most of us Wisconsinites against the state and its people as whole

Its funny because I moved to California for half a year back in 2013 for a job that didnt work out and so we drove a moving truck from Corona back to Illinois. The whole time i was in California, i never yelled at anyone or lost my temper while driving which is the complete opposite from living in Illinois because I find it that frustrating. I liked driving out there because even with all the traffic, the second traffic breaks, people step on the f***ing gas! Californians can drive, but theres just sooo much traffic and all kind of insanely weird shit going on while youre driving on the highways, that i understand that they get overly excited .

Driving through California.. .didnt yell at anyone in 6 months... drove through Arizona... Nevada...Utah...Colorado...Nebraska (Denver to Omaha has to be the most mind numbing, soul destroying stretch of road, I was praying for a tornado so I could have something to see), Iowa..... Not even 10 minutes after crossing the Iowa/Illinois border, a car cut me off and then started driving 10 mph slower for absolutely no reason. I looked at the Illinois license plate and I f***ing lost it.... Wife was startled.. "What the f*** is wrong with you?".... I pointed at the license plate... "We're back in f***ing Illinois!"

I honestly think that they are just giving away licenses in Illinois so that they can capitalize on getting them into court to pay fines. Illinois is known for its corruption so I think my theory fits right into the narrative. Drivers in other states do dumb shit, but Illinois driver literally dont know how to operate a vehicle properly. My niece just finished driving school and didnt have to take the road test to get her license... Im like "how the f*** does that work?"

Only thing more frustrating then driving in Illinois is driving in Indiana... Its worse for a completely different reason. People are overly nice and have nowhere to go. Which is a terrible combination. People will sit at a 4 way stop and wave each other through and nobody goes or the person in front of you lets 4 other cars go and never takes their turn. They will all stay in a lane behind a car that is turning like its disrespectful to switch lanes and go around that person. They will sit there, 20 cars deep and waiting for that one car to turn left. My disrespectful Illinois ass gets into the next lane and passes everybody while they look judgingly at me.

Oh don’t get me started on varying by state. Might sound biased being from Ohio but Michigan is horrible too. I bought my truck in Detroit then I occasionally make the 2 hour journey across the Ohio-Michigan state line to buy parts or pick up…things that can’t be legally purchased elsewhere, and literally as soon as you cross into Michigan traffic speeds up to 80-95mph and everyone weaves in and out of every lane to cut you off. You’ll see someone flying around everyone here locally headed west towards Toledo and to no shock, usually a Michigan plate!

Speaking as an ambulance driver no one seems to be able to drive or think if sirens are involved. I haven’t really seen one car brand stand out. I will say though people in trucks are either the nicest people ever that will GTFO of the way asap, or they’re huge assholes who block your path or pass you when you’re going lights and sirens.

In my personal vehicle? Any kind of lifted truck is gonna be a problem. They’re the new Honda bois who drive like escaped mental patients. I sincerely enjoy gapping the shit out of them in my grandma suv.

My issue is only Illinois. Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, and Iowa all respect the left lane being the passing lane. Illinoisans will go 95 to overtake you and get into the passing lane and then slow down to 70 (the speed limit) to keep pace with the car next to them so nobody can get around and get in front of them. It’s some weird control thing

That sounds about right. I know my talon is straight piped, and if I'm out late I try my hardest to feather the gas through the neighborhood. I try to respect everyone.

I’d figure out when he goes to bed and a few hours later I’d return the favor with some anti lag.

I plan on doing exactly this to an axe wound down the street from me with his pos loud Harley that he goes WOT every time he leaves his house. Doesn’t matter if it’s 3am or 11pm at night. I’ve figured out he sleeps during the day so it’s on when the talon is running baby.

The edge with the exhaust removed from the cats back is actually louder than most rotaries so I’ve been tempted to do that instead. But the talon will be more fun. As will the fireballs.

Yeah we’ve got mostly loud vehicles and try to do the same. I leave super early and try to just idle away until I get a ways out. Or take something quieter if I’m going to be running errands coming and going.
It’s just common courtesy.

I’ve always thought harleys were stupid. Crotch rockets are also loud but they don’t reverberate and smack you with sound the way those retarded screamin’ eagle exhausts do on the harleys. It’s like having a flashing red light and a big sign saying “LOOK AT ME! I WANT ATTENTION!” Pathetic. Or maybe I’m just salty because they’re out until 4am every night from May to September ripping up and down my road.

I never really had a problem with Harleys until i lived in this one neighborhood on the north side of Chicago. This guy would leave for work at 330am, every week day on his Fatboy.. He would rev it out of the garage and then let it full rip when he hit the alley. Since the neighborhood was your standard Chicago 2 and 3 flat buildings, the noise would just continuously echo off the buildings. Not sure why he hated the neighborhood so much but the kid that lived in the basement of our building use to take all the flack for it. Clueless people in the neighborhood thought that it was him because he parked his Yamaha crotch rocket on the street and it was the only bike that people saw, so immediately associated the two. Finally met that douchbag at the block party. Him and his wife were just as obnoxious and loud as the bike.

It makes me realize I am an old man at heart. My old house my 70 y/o neighbor and I were best friends. Same with the 60 y/o on the other side. The people behind me that were my age I hated with a passion. The 70 y/o comes and visits me at my new house still. I only moved a mile up the road into the mountain slightly.

The local autocross club had a bunch of SCCA Nationals podium-level drivers in S2000s that were god-level specimens of car control, and other than young morons with them, I’ve never seen a truly bad S2000 driver.

I won’t say they’re bad drivers, but I always seem to get stuck behind snails in those Kia Rondo/Hyundai Touring things, or 1st generation Toyota Echoes. They all seem to be the slowest drivers around, and they are the bane of my existence in traffic.

Vehicles in my neighborhood skew far more toward pickups and suvs, with lots of Subarus, so my frame of reference is unusual. I see a link between the behavior of the driver and the degree to which the vehicle’s front end looks angry or hostile. Most full-size suvs and pickups play on this. Suburbans seem to both look like and drive like: “You are of absolutely no importance to me, it’s embarrassing we even have to share the same roads”. BMW seems to also be working hard on this image, with ever-more menacing grills now screaming wide open. How many courteous drivers stroll through the lot and pick the mean-looking car.
I’m not saying we need to drive that last gen of Mazda with the ridiculous grin, but cars don’t need to project angry expressions that embolden their driver’s sense of privilege.

Note on Harleys: I get that nostalgia is fun, but what is the sense in making them so loud. To which Ive heard loud pipes save lives, but oddly I see more Harley riders w/o helmets…

I notice that a LOT of people these days are driving later into the evening with headlights and marker lights OFF. ... as in, until it's nearly PITCH BLACK. Feel free to get yourself hit, fool, because nobody else can see you. That's on you. I just feel sorry for the unfortunate Other Person you drag into that accident.

I notice more people driving in the morning through thick fog with no headlights on or marker lights. I have murdered out windows in all my vehicles. I can barely see out as it is and then some dumbass wants to drive through a sheet of grey in a grey car with no lights on. Unless it’s 100% visibility outside turn your damn lights on.

Don’t get me started on the people that drive behind someone at night with their high beams on. Or the people that have light bars on at night. I have a light bar on my truck however it’s never on when I’m on a public road.

As I stated a long time ago in this thread. Everybody has their head up their asses. Every generation of parent gets dumber and the offspring have no problem making sure they keep that trend going. They don’t make them like they used to. Just a bunch up entitled, clueless lazy mfers out there anymore. Can’t tell their asses from a hole in the ground.

I was brought up in the Boston area through the 70’s and 80’s and have to report there were tons of bad drivers decades ago too. In fact, it got to the point where you had to mentally acknowledge and sort of appreciate when you witnessed driving behavior so rude or ignorant that it rose above the typical tailgate or triple-lane-change exit.
Back then BMW ( and within that the 318i) was the undisputed choice of drivers on a mission to piss off everyone on the road.

This is absolutely correct. They put a great deal of time and money into focus groups to develop angry looking cars. People perceive aggressive front designs as strong and assertive. Studies have also shown that people are prone to driving more respectfully around aggressive looking cars. People see the front of a car as a face. BMW specifically uses this to project that “you are of no importance to me” as a status marketing practice. And then the drivers of these hyper aggressive cars or better-than-you bmws are often total pansy types who are clearly compensating.

I miss the days of classic, beautiful design. Or quirky fun design. Or at least simple, practical design. Remember when the average Silverado or Ram looked like a tough, dependable truck instead of some kind of jet fighter with x shaped grille designs and plastic protrusions? The e39 m5 before it grew beaver teeth and was engineered to look mean? The ridiculous but awesome and soooooo fun/unique lights on our 1ga dsms?

Also how has nobody mentioned the fact that Harley riders have now discovered subs and massive systems. I miss the days when I was just annoyed by their exhausts but at least heard hair bands or country over the speakers. Now it’s thumping rap bass cranked all the way up cause the exhaust wasn’t enough of a disturbance. I’d rather hear Welcome to the Jungle for the 10,000,000th time than even more needless thumping. But I’m basically 85 at heart so maybe I just like to bi***

Let me throw this morbid tidbit out there.....

Ive driven with 2 friends that I noticed have done this....
Friend #1 We were in the city and he picked us up to go get tacos... People were flashing lights at us because he didnt have his lights on but we all didnt notice because in the City the street lights are so close together on main streets that you can see just fine without the lights on and you could easily forget about them except for the lack of illumination of your dashboard. Honest mistake. Caught myself doing it a time or 2.

Friend #2. We were driving in the burbs with the sun quickly setting. Kept looking at my wife in the backseat like.. okay.. when is she going to turn her lights on.. Pulled up to the car in front of us and so i reached across and turned her lights on... Which it was apparent to the rest of us that... oh yeah.. now we can see..No response from her. Got to our destination which was a bowling alley.. Bowled for a while.. Got back in the car.. she takes off without her lights on. First stop light we get to.. I put my head in her lap so that it was obvious that i was reaching across to flip her lights on.. no response from her at all. Not a "What are you doing?" or a "Oh yeah.. how bout them lights". She simply keeps going as if she is seeing the exact same thing.. So shes driving competely normal. Stopping for lights, signs, other cars, turn signals, following along with the conversations we are having, quite coherent... But there is no way on God's green earth that she is seeing what is in front of her in almost complete darkness...Yet no response to the obvious change. A few weeks after that, she was in the kitchen cooking when we came to visit. Shes gabbing away to us from the kitchen as we walk in the house... then we walk into the kitchen....Blood everywhere... shes checking the pots, oven timer goes off and shes checking to see if the cake in set.. Hasnt noticed that she cut her hand real good and leaving a trail of blood all over the house. Yet everything else about her is completely normal...Point it out to her... She grabs a paper towel and start wiping a little bit with the bloody hand that she cut so shes smearing more blood into the blood already staining the counter top.... Im like.. um... we are way passed a paper towel cleaning this up...Took her to the hospital... Thats when it came out that shes prescription drug abuser. Everything about them is quite normal except for the one f***ed up thing they are doing that they cant see for some reason but is shockingly obvious to anyone else.

Not saying that everyone without their lights on that you come across is an addict... but now that I can spot one, it bothers me the amount of people I come across that exhibit signs that makes me question. I cant unsee what ive seen so i can no longer just look past odd behaviour that doesnt make sense. Those videos where you see people driving without a wheel, rolling on the the hub in a shower of sparks. They get pulled over, seem a little spacy.. but answering all your questions yet seem to have no clue that something f***ed up is going on.... Prescription drugs.. way more of a problem than people think it is.

Now that we are FINALLY getting some rain here in the middle of the country, I notice WAY TOO MANY DRIVERS WITHOUT THEIR LIGHTS ON. I live in KS but in OK, where I work, it is the law to use your lights if it is raining.........I drive with mine on but if I spot you WITHOUT YOURS ON, you get the brights, to maybe brighten up your keen sense...IDK, people just seem to not have any COMMON SENSE ANYMORE.
