my car is burning oil, and the boost guage does not show any boost. i had a compression test to see if i had a broken piston ring, but the test showed nothing wrong with my compression. i then thought that it must be my turbos broken. i took off the hose that air is sucked into the turbo from and put my finger in there and i was able to spin the blades quite easily. there was no movement or play that i could feel and it spun just perfect. im at a loss. im hoping its a broken turbo, because that would be much cheaper then an engine rebuild. i dont think id need an engine rebuild because the compression was good. the check engine light is on and im confused. can my turbo still be broken and spin freely like that? i am so confused. anyone have any idea whats going on? please help me out. ima have the car looked at tommorrow by a specialist, but id like to have some idea about what is going on. i just have my fingers crossed its just a broken turbo. any help would be great, thanks.
 
-Most likely it's just your valve seals , valve spring compression tool can be bought/borrow from part stores, this can be done without opening up the motor or removing the head off the car.
 
I don't know where valve seals would lose boost.

Does the car drive like a dog, or does it feel more or less normal? Any time a gauge starts reading high or low, the first suspect is the sender for the gauge, its wiring and connectors, and then the gauge. Since the DSM "boost" gauge isn't measuring _anything_, first suspect is the gauge. Have you put on indiglo faces or anything?

If it's an aftermarket gauge, check the tubing and the connections for it.
