so i guess i made the worst mistake ever by dropping my car with those cheap ebay coilovers... well guess what... it looks nice but it rides like crap, its bouncy as hell but thats not the problem.
After the first couple of days i put them on i heard a big bang from my rear left tire when i hit a bump, so i stopped and looked and my coilover was sitting at the very bottom of the whole strut.. i was like wtf... how did this happen... so i thought it was bound to happen eventually so i go to a junk yard i get a new strut and install it and its good for a little while and then bamm it happens again... and then again to my other tire... so both of my struts are broke in my rear.. and by broke i mean that metal ring where the bottom of your spring originally sits or where the coilover would sit now, broke off of the strut where it was welded causing the whole coilover to fall to the bottom of the strut. so what can i do? and why did this happen? can i get a more expensive drop kit that comes with the strut included? if so what is recommended.. i want a smoother ride ### those coilovers sucked! the front end is fine i dont care, its just the back that broke,

thanks!

The ride quality is one thing, but the breaking of the strut is another. Before we go off on a buying spree, what strut are you using? Having struts that you pulled from a junkyard break doesn't convince me that the springs are responsible.

ya I read a story about a guy who put ebay coilovers on this saturn and they shot up through his hood.OMG
You know what you should do, so dont skimp on the quality. Good coilovers are the ones that are intagrated into the strut and cost over 1K for the set. It seems like you going for look and some handling so i would just get lowering springs and aftermarket shocks. Theres no need for coilovers if your not autox'ing.

springs:

a combo of one of thies springs and one of thies shocks should work fine.

My brother's got a set of "R-1" eBay coilovers on his Miata. At first I thought he was nuts, but they're actually kind of decent (they at least tell you the spring rate of the springs). The sleeves feel really cheap, though. He's got them paired with Koni Yellows and the car kicks it's rear-end out real easy.

I just put on the cosmo racing evo2 coilovers about a week ago. I had to install them twice but they ride nice. And if the spring seat broke off the strut you have a real problem. My guess would be the spring rate is so weak that all that weight from your car came down on the seat and busted it right off. Did the seat break or did it slide down the strut? I just found out last week that the seat is not welded to the strut. IF you turn it upside down you can hammer it right off. Anyway for 170 shipped the cosmo works great and you get rid of that spring seat. Heres a link. They used my install for the pics too.

The perches breaking are possibly due to the added downforce on them because the sring has very little travel and the coil itself is collapsing. The perches are only pressed on lightly, you can remove them with a standard 14oz hammer.

Pay the money for a decent set.

The seat is still on the strut, its just at the very bottom along with the stupid coilovers. The car drives like shit like that, it feels very unsafe! Now with those seats being broke, do i need new struts again? Or can the EVO II DUAL SPRING KIT be put on without the seats? Really I just want the kit for the rear ### my front is fine, its just my rear struts that messed up. The rear was a lot easier to drop than the front! Just tell me what i need to buy thats reasonable.

And they dont even have to be coilovers, i dont care if its just springs, i just want it to be dropped again in the rear but not mess break the sleeves on the strut again. if i could find some used just for the rear ....

Those struts will still work with the evo2's. I don't know if i skimped on the suspension but the ride is very nice to me. If I had the money I would but better to see what they are like but I have no quams with what I am using now. And you are very unsafe in your current situation.

Well when i could afford this body kit was back when i had a job and i was a senior in high school, now that i go to a university (go longhorns!) i really dont have the same amount of money to spend on my car. With that said, i guess im going to buy the EVO II DUAL SPRING KIT since it will work on my struts that have the broken sleeves and i have no other idea how to fix it. what would happen if i try to weld the sleeves back on? can u weld on the strut? or is there gas in the shocks that will blow up?

oh and my car doesnt look anywhere like it used to.. i now have a stock 99 bumper, no longer have that POS lip on my front bumper, i have 99 sideskirts, blackedout corner lenses, and its dropped verry verry low. it looks a lot less ricer and looks nicer. so i basically went through a 95 talon conversion to 97-99 eclipse... while having a bodykit as well (big mistake and waste of money and time by the way)

ebay springs = bouncy and harsh ride

I been down that road man, and I will never buy coil overs from ebay again unless they are name brand :eibach, Apexi etc.

can you post pic's of the "after" and the ebay parts?

anyone who is doing suspension mods MUST realize that a suspension handles loads in excess of 5Gs over bumps. These forces are HUGE! compressed springs can, and have KILLED.

If not seated correctly, springs will walk, and/or bend mating components in effort to escape from their entrapment. Compressed to your car's corner weight, they have enough power to really F* you and your car up.

please post pics so we can determine what happened.

yeah I'll take pictures no problem, but can u explain the spring walk, bend mating components, corner weight, and do you mean KILLED as in causing an accident resulting in the drivers death? ### yeah the handling sucks balls when the seats broke on my struts.
