Hey guys. I drove to work t today and the car ran good until I pulled into work. I stopped to let a car pull out and mine died. I tried to restart it and it cranked but wouldn't start. I came out to go home and it took a little too get her started and I had to hold down the gas pedal. If I just let it idle, it idle around 3-400 rpm. I can step on the gas and it revs right up. I just replaced the alternator yesterday and the belt today. Not sure what is going on or what to do. I kinda need to get home though. Any help would be appreciated.

I already have checked the wires. I don't have the tools or a multimeter with me to check the plugs or cool packs

Haven't figured it out yet. Tried some stuff out today, but no solution yet. I'm off on Monday, I may give you a call this weekend

So, I replaced my iac, cleaned my throttle body and the car still tries to die when I put it in gear. I've heard that the iac portion on the ecu goes out on these cars. Does anyone have an ecu that I can use just to test whether mine is the problem or not?

I just replaced it. I'm just at a loss on what it could be. I drove it around the block the other night and it would die when I come to a stop unless I throw it in neutral and revved it. About half way around the block though it start to loose power and knock really bad.

Were you able to figure out the problem? Because I am stuck in that same situation.

Not yet. I tried replacing the iac and when I took it around the block the engine started knocking real bad and losing power.

Noob here and not sure if this'll be much help but have you checked if maybe a coupler somewhere in the intake area or intercooler/bov area has burst/torn? I had a similar problem before and I automatically assumed the IACV but I accidently leaned on the coupler on my bov and found out it had a big tear in it. I was only able to hear it when I put pressure on the coupler. Taped it up very tightly as a temporary fix and the problem went away. (Still haven't replaced the coupler and it's still holding up fine, for about 6 months now, I know it's bad but I'm on a very tight budget.)

Have you tested your fuel presser or fuel filter.
I had an Acura and when the fuel pump started to go it would do the same thing. I would have to floor it to get it to start and ran like shit. low A/F (lean) will make motor knock.
just my two cents.
good luck!

ANY luck with the car man... ? i assume from reading your car is a auto?

i work with forced air tech, here is phoenix off the 143 and university and i have been building and tuning dsm for years. if you would like to bring the car by to see whats going on i would be more then happy to lead a hand.

Best guess is to first off check the condition of your ecu, then take the next steps.

thanks, N8tuned-2086811025

Not sure, the tow fee would be stupid expensive and I don't want to risk trying to drive it out there

Ok, so I cleaned the injectors the best I could today. Checked the ecu and no burnt spots on the board. Started it and it started and idled good. Sounded like there was a slight knock in the #1 cylinder. The cams and valves look good. My timing belt has about a full inch of free play between the gears. Could it have jumped timing and causing the low and rough idle when in gear? Also,I know my motor mounts need to be replaced badly. Could the twist of the engine be the reason the idle is dropping so low when I put it in gear?
