Spine count?

Kinda a newbie question, but im going to ask anyway.

I have a 90 talon tsi awd and have found out that my tranny case has a monster crack in it. Every place I've called but the dealer wants a spine count. The dealer says if the tranny hasnt been changed out it should be a 22 spine.

My question is What spine am i looking for to count? To be honest this is my first DSM or AWD car for that matter.

The rear output shaft that slides into the transfer case.

It's actually spLine count as well. But yes the output shaft to the transfer case, and he is correct if the car hasn't had a swap it should be a 22 spline.
