so, my 10 year old son entered the Special Olympics, which will be held here in Idaho.
he will be bowling for the sport of choice. today was his first tournament.
out of roughly 30 kids each with their own disabilities, 3 different schools, my son came in second place based on a 3 game average system. his highest game of the 3 was a 103. bumpers were used of course. he even got a strike, along with multiple spares, and splits, one of which he even picked up LOL.

this will be a first time bowling event for the S.O. so they are testing to see what the do's and dont's are, but he did good on his first tourney.

Your son is probably already a better bowler than I am. If I can break 100, I'm doing excellent. LOL

If you don't mind me asking, what is his disability?

i have a hard time spelling some of these, but here you go...
he has been diagnosed with asbergers, Tourett's, add, adhd, aggression, anxiety disorder, slight mental retardation. he takes 3 different meds 3 times a day just to function enough to be able to think. he is in the 5th grade, but more like 1st grade.
i think we will keep him though, he is not broken, just highly modified. :)

You are one of the good ones, take care of him and make him do anything and everything he possibly can.

    Congratulations to your son! :thumb:

I think the first picture is really cute, I'm guessing that was after his strike?

He looks very happy to be there, is he an avid bowler?

    :)

yeah, that x pose was after his strike LOL.
he is not really an avid bowler, we have not been for about 2 years now, but my wife and i were in a league for a number of years, and both my kids used to watch. he was a baby when we first started bowling, used to sleep through the entire league play. i had an average of a 230 or so before i got old and my joints started to hurt from bowling. i might just have to suck it up and start again, teaching him more things. he already has my hook.

i think that santa will be bringing a new bag, ball and shoes for him and his sister this year.:thumb: and start up again bowling. he pretty much wants to do anything dad does, including building on the racecar.

"honda's are something you flush down the toilet" is one of the many surprising things he says. ROFL

Congrats man! My 6 year old has Autism but I tell you what. That kid has more character than the other 2. Its nice to see another parent who is proud of their kid regardless of how they are.

Just curious, what was your reaction when you first found out he was diagnosed with these things,
    I would be really angry.

thanks for the acknowledgment guys. i read the repliees on here and neons forum to him, what a big smile you guys gave him haha.

    as for the debating comment...

he was diagnosed 8 years ago (he was 2 then) and it is not something ANY parent would enjoy hearing, at least i hope not. we cried, had fear full of the what now's, kind of felt like it was our fault, ect ect. but life goes on, we have accepted it for what it is, and accepted him in all his hyper glory LOL. i think every parent that finds something mentally wrong with their kid has the same feelings, but you get over it and look at the positive side of what hand was dealt. we even accepted us taking care of him for the rest of his life, but to find out from the parenting class we are enrolled in (on our own free will btw) that when the time is right for HIM, to let him move out and live in a community for people with disabilities.
that was our only weight we have had on our shoulders from day 1. now, since knowing of this new bit of info, we have a heavy heart of letting him go when he is old enough and ready.
i do not fully understand why the question was brought up either, nor do i care. i am open to this convo, since i did post this personal info on a public site, ect. maybe it will help others who have children with autism help cope with stuff and not hide personal info in the closet.

    Thank you sir.
As to why I asked, I'm not even close to being a dad yet. I just couldn't imagine what it would be like to deal with that. Thanks for taking the time to type it, and I'm sorry if it bothered you that i asked.
I see disabled kids at my school and wonder how hard it is for the parents.
    Now I know.
Thanks for taking the time to type up an answer to my question.
Hope he gets 1st next time :thumb:
