It came in handy for me when oil leaked out from the center manifold stud and onto my turbo which caught fire when I stopped. The only time I used it but sure glad I had it.

I've seen one car on fire. Was on I-81, very random. Looked to my left and entire thing was on fire. I was like WTF LOL. Saw someone flip a 4 banger truck on 51 one time too. This was when I lived in WV. Crazy times. Also saw multiple car that decided to drive off mountain sides or roads that had extremely steep hills.

As a firefighter I’ve seen way too many vehicle fires. And you’re right, it’s never pretty

120 grit at 3000 rpm's for 3 hours straight. I can't feel my right hand. OMG The paint on the trunk is the harshest paint I've ever sanded in my life. I don't know what the deal is, but it sucked. I'm glad It's done now, moving on to the primer stage. I will post a bunch of pictures when I am finished.

When I run into that, I just use aircraft pain stripper, strip it completely and then start with bare metal to prime

I've been doing a ton of work lately. My brain is exploding with new knowledge! The car is currently up on jackstands in the garage with the engine only half assembled and parts all over the floor.

So I started this "small" project only planning to replace the 2 intake manifold gaskets and the throttle body gasket. But as soon as I started taking things apart I noticed more and more problems and generated more new ideas.

Very first thing I did is sprayed the inside of the manifold with brake cleaner, that sh** was nasty. Then I took my Dremel and bored out the intake mani a little bit, removing extra grit, and opening the ports all the way up, hoping for some better airflow. Then I sanded the outside of it to make it completely smooth and laid that beautiful metallic paint on it.

I then went back to my bay to pull the lower mani and realized that my fuel rail looked absolutely nasty! So I checked my box, and yep, I still had some high-heat gloss black! I removed the wiring harness, a little wire wheeling, masking, then I sprayed it up real nice.

So now I crawl under the car to remove the lower bolts on the lower mani, and I see a black box in the way. I remove it. And then I realize this box has 2 hoses coming off of it. Both of which go to the manifold as vacuum hoses. But wait, they both go to the manifold, so this box was just recirculating vacuum? Or at least I thought so until I looked and the box was split wide open! So I had a large vacuum leak! So I then looked a my diagram for the vacuum system and realized that my egr solenoid is supposed to run off of the ldp so it's not open all the time, but it was run straight off the intake mani which left it open all the time! No wonder the mani was so nasty! So how I fixed this problem is I connected the hose from the egr straight to the hardline that leads back to the ldp, capped off the port on the intake mani, then ran a hose straight from the intake mani to the servo, therefore deleting this "black box".

So I spent a few hours figuring out all of the vacuum stuff, but wow, I actually understand it now! I can't wait to start the car up and see all the codes gone!

I proceeded to do the same thing with the lower mani, Dremel bore and paint.

All I need to do now in re-install everything with the new paints and parts and proper setup, taking a bunch of pictures along the way. Then I will start it up and do some pulls to see how much power I have regained and added!

Awesome man. Can’t wait for updates. As far as mine the interior is completely stripped, installing the non-broken black dash today, cleaning mold and grime from the floor and spraying it with rubberized undercoating.

That's funny I'm actually doing the same thing to my GSX. Be wary though, in my experience undercoating only masks the problem. I'd reccommend you sand down the spots decently and put down some rust paint. Rust paint has rust inhibitors mixed in that makes them ideal for this kind of job. I'm even considering using the rust paint to the underside of the eclipse instead of undercoating.

Finally got the lights hooked up, wheel well covers installed, engine bay assembled and cleaned up, swept the shop floor etc etc. The car is looking great, I can't wait to be done with it.

I started it up in the driveway, and immediately the engine settled down to the 900 rpm idle like its supposed to. No more idle surging. There's still a slight cam loping, but I like it since it's mild. I took it on a little cruise. I decided to take it on the interstate this evening to see how much better it is. Man it had me laughing. It runs so much smoother now. Throttle response is awesome. No more sputtering. I really enjoyed myself and the car this evening. I can't explain how damn good it feels to know that I put this thing together. And that it works like a charm.

I think I can sleep tight tonight, I've worked my ass off the past couple of years, and I'm nearing the end of the project. All that's left is:
    - paint roof
    - scrape windows
    - rear disc brake conversion
    - Megasquirt ecu

After that I'll drive it till the day it dies and then do it all over again. Ahhhh, the joys of the DSM world....

2 vacuum leaks and an improperly routed egr. Glad that's over now!

I’ve only had it cranked up a few times, it has good throttle response, but idles erratically. And usually around the 1800-2200 range

Throttle cable might be too tight, that'd be an easy check and fix.

It might be a little while before I purchase these things since I don't have a ton of cash in-hand, but I wanted to go ahead and take note. This is sort of my wishlist, I figure if I type it here it's a way to remember and remind me.

First, I'm getting a GoPro Hero (6 or 7). I will use this to do timelapse videos of the project, slow motion shots, and all the other cool stuff and then I'll put it on Youtube.

Second, I'm getting a full catback system. I currently have everything pre-cat, and an aftermarket muffler. But I want to have the full system modified for top power gains and a better sound.

Third, I'm getting a 3 gauge cluster. I find it a necessity to monitor my oil pressure, especially since I didn't replace the oil pump :sosad:. I also want a voltage gauge, to ensure my alternator is still working. Not sure about the third gauge yet, but I'll figure it out.

Fourth, I plan to get a rear strut bar. The one I put on the front made a slight difference. Enough of a difference that I'm willing to spend the $90 or less to have one on the rear as well.

Fifth, or this should have been first on the list, but whatever. Full detail inside and out of the car. I might just strip the full interior down to clean every square inch. And there's still some dirty parts underneath the car that need de-greasing and possibly coating. I'm not trying to go show car status, but I want to be damn close!

And I know good and well that there's something or many things that I'm forgetting here. But good things come in time, I must be patient.

My next step after just getting it running right is paint. I will have full photos of that process, and also I want the GoPro for video steps of it, the iPhone just doesn’t do the quality. Going for clean daily driver here. But really damn clean. Lol. I have an aftermarket exhaust on it now, but also picked up a 3” turbo back exhaust I will be bolting on once it’s road ready
