So i just sold my truck that i owed way to much on and figuered id go with a slightly better version of my first love (a 96 eclipse RS). Well i was stoked when i found the car so i showed the guys in my office well there baggin on me cause im gettin what they call a nopi car they tell me i should buy a smaller truck cause its more practical but just thought this would be a cool post to hear some if any stories about others like me gettin ragged on about our cars DSM :hellyeah:s

Well they are imported from Illinois so not really an "import". Its great to see the expression on there face when I tell them that and the fact that there car is most likely made in Mexico or Canada.

Some people act like it's the greatest machine ever built. About 2-3 people I know. The rest think it's nothing but "rice", might as well be a Honda or maybe I'll just sense the general disrespect towards me when I'm driving it. One thing's for sure, I don't get cut off or get into half as many "close calls" when I'm driving something else. Honestly, people just get weird around the car.

One time I counted 4 blown stop signs, 2 blown redlights and 8 failure to signals - ALL in my immediate proximity. This is all in a 5min drive across town. I'm not convinced if people react to the car like the full moon (weird behavior) or if they're just hating so hard they don't value my life in any regard.

LOL thie picture is distubing and funny at the same time im sticking to my guns on this one i want a DSM and thats what im gettin

Race for money when someone talks. You get to see who can walk.

Kind of the opposite for me. Younger ppl ask "what the hell is a Laser?" or "Plymouth? I though they just made minivans?"

A few older folks have said "There you go- a Plymouth. Good ol' reliable domestic." A few more sentences into the conversation, they're disappointed.

Besides, who cares what other ppl say about our awesome DSMs. We know they're one of the greatest cars ever built :)

I love that conversation..Cause it ends up turning into sadnees for them, when you say your car has more american parts then they do..Or tell them My cas is from illinois,, thers your from, and they don't know..

Here in RI, It's more a muscle-car kind of scene. It seems as though the stereotype of them all being stupid, poor and ignorant is true most of the time. They seem to know nothing about cars, how or where they're made, and who REALLY makes them.

None of the muscle car guys around here want to comprehend that foreign automakers actually manufacture the cars they use everyday, right here in America. The Altima, Sentra, Civic, Eclipse, Maxima, Corolla, Camry, Accord....All made in America.

I think it has something to with the fact that Japanese products are well engineered, have the same power as American cars but for way less money, and don't fall apart so easily.

:hmm:

That and america has a habit of cutting themselves off because of litigation from one of the other big 3. Or teh big three won't bring over some of their Euro cars cause they think they won't sell. Like the AWD Escort and focus. *Shrugs*

Fiero, Corvair, RS200,

:hmm:

1) Actual muscle car guys are not poor, ignorant, or stupid.
2) That's what ricers always say "My car is engineered better, yada yada"
3) Your car is American as well as most imports, they are manufactured in America.

The typical import person is not very smart, they're generally broke (their parents bought their car for them and pay all of the bills), and they're super gullible and anti-muscle.

Most 03-04 cobra owners, gt500 owners, and corvette owners have owned DSM's. Just because some poor sucker in an IROC-Z or old silverado thinks imports are ### does not mean they are a muscle car guy, it just means they are ignorant.

When I first got my car my friends were wondering why I got a 4 cylinder and not a camaro or mustang(they'd never been in a fast car that had less than 8 cylinders), they then rode in my car a month later when I was tuned on Link and they finally understood.

Most v8 cars will mess around at first, but then once they hear me spool, they usually change their minds... Unless they have something worth competing with.

I think it's simply because not many know a lot about these cars and see them as normal DDs. Everyone I drove around or explained a bit about the engine/where they were built seems to like it after they've learned a bit more about it. So ignorance mostly, any big car enthusiast will know these are good platforms.

LOL did you read whole my post? You made general assumptions without any thought. You just proved my point! :tease:

It's been proven year after year that foreign cars are the way to go.

Remember that bailout for the "Big 3"? All that money and they still make crappy cars. It's just more of the same.

BTW, I own a 99 RS and a 99 GSX. Im trying to get a 93 RX-7 or a 93 Supra to add to my collection. Maybe an Evo also, not sure which year. Does that mean Im a ricer and broke? :hmm::hellyeah:

I totaled my last car (civic) and my friends wanted to know what I was gonna get next. As soon as Eclipse came out of my mouth they immediately went to rice. Then I explained the whole background story behind a DSM and they just stared blankly. I can't wait to get my hands on a GSX and show them how its done. :hellyeah:

I didn't prove your point. I was simply stating facts.

Like I said that is the description of a TYPICAL import owner. It's obviously not the case for all, just like not all silverado/iroc drivers are rednecks. :ohdamn:

Go ahead and get the rx-7 and prove to the world exactly how it's engineered better with the slew of problems that accompany them. With that said, it is a super sexy car.

Just fyi, I knew a few sleven and most certainly mkiv owners who didn't pay a dime for their car and fall into the import mentality. :hmm:

Oh and on the bailouts you are talking about, let me know which companies received 99% of that money. It was from mis-managment (Chevrolet already paid their loan back, long time ago). Also if imports are superior, wonder why the eco-boost F150 outsold all truck manufacturers COMBINED last month?

I get shit about it all the time but I don't give a ####. I usually tell them to either stfu or meet me @ the local dragstrip on test and tune night if they wan't to run em head to head.

Lol at "because race car" first time i have seen that. I don't have a DSM yet but the relieved look i get on old peoples face at car cruises is priceless when i tell them that the 1966 f100 is mine and the 1967 dodge coronet 440 is my dads. LOL..it is like they are really relieved or something like taking a big poop haha

When I read this I couldn't stop laughing..It is so true..but people are loving the car and forgetting they are driving. They aren't hating.

I have had this discussion with my wife as the reason I hate driving things like the explorer we just sold... People disrespect the shit out of you. I'm getting on the highway 2-3 people will try and prevent me from getting on...... Stop signs I am on my way through, they hammer it to get across first leaving me like WTF?! In the dsm they don't try that..it's almost like they expect us to start weaving in and out of traffic or something...

You've gotta know HATE is the new LOVE. People honestly admire the dsm and are jealous of our dsm swagger haha. I get a lot of haters and people that really love dsm staring... These cars demand attention. I love them...

When your driving a Bimmer or Benz (or bentley which I never have and can't afford haha) you go much more under the radar however retaining some respect from other drivers. In the S class or the 740 people give you full respect, you never get cut off, people give you right of way all over. However, people do get REAL pissed and hate starts flowing when they see a 22-26 year old driving a flagship....

PO people in my area are hardcore classic car people. Mustangs are the car of choice. The import scene includes multi-colored body kits, stock engines, and your occasional bone stock evo. I understand why people don't appreciate the import cars around here. So I make sure I represent us well. Sleepers with plenty of power.

My father was a huge hater of imports until he drove my 95 gsx after a dose of bolt ons he drove it first that night. I was 16 at the time so I had no say in such matters.... As we got back to the garage he was like "I don't think this was a good idea...." From that day forth he had a decent appreciation.

I will however say people around here know what a dsm is. They expect when they see one it is turbo and is going to be fast. It's not like pulling up in a civic or a celica.

How envious I am.

EDIT: "Bay Area" is misleading. My city is a ####ing desert.

As long as your car is running properly (to shut them up about the reliability factor,) go give them a ride in it. Most people will have a new appreciation for a boosted 4cyl after that. I don't see why everyone has to worry what others think of their vehicle. You'll never please everybody.
