i drive my car 10-15 min or so... and when i stop smoke comes out from the wheel wells... looked under the car with the help of a lift.. and there is so much oil everywhere... has anyone had this problem? i just changed the valve cover gasket.. and the oil pan gasket looks alittle bad but i don't think thats where most of the oil is coming from... is there a gasket from the motor to the tranny? cause thats where it seems like its coming from... i just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem...

seems like most of the gaskets went after i drove my car cross country :D can't blame my car for actin up.. its been through alot

First, there is no gasket between the transmission and the engine. There are seals which can wear, get hard, and leak oil.

More than likely the oil leaks are getting on the exhaust system and then burning off when the engine gets hot. It might be helpful to take it to a do-it-youself car wash and clean as much as you can.

You don't want oil getting on the brakes for that can just add more expense to the repairs you will have to make. Do check that the PCV valve is working for if it's plugged the normal blow-by will force oil form any weak seal or gasket.

look at ur head gasket or ur valuve cover gasket again . try ur dip stick its there somewhere. and its not the tranny. good luck if u could get a pic it would be alot easier to find. later

not really into cars you see, but my roommate is... we first thought it was the head gasket but wouldn't it over heat? anyways.. thanks for the help guys.... :D much appreciated.

what exactly does the pcv valve do? and where is it.. sorry don't know much about this stuff..

it jsut releases pressure from the crank case...its the one comin off ur valve cover that has a hose going to the intake

Can you keep the head gasket, and get another roommate? If not that, just don't let this one "help" you with your car. For the love of all that's rolling.

WTHECK?>? hahah where did that come from
anyways thanks for you help guys...

just got my car looked at , at a garage, and they said it was the rear main seal.... they said it would take about 8 hrs of labor... is that true??

If they don't know what they are doing! If you are mechanically inclined, do it yourself. All you have to do is drop the tranny, take off the clutch, pres plate, flywheel, and it's right there. Five little bolts holding it to the block, 2 more from the oil pan. I think I paid 8 or 12 dollars for a new rear main seal from the factory. But if you don't want to do it, then they probably will milk it to 8 hrs. I can probably do it in about 4 - 5 hours, fully reassembled. That's me though, I've had a lot of practice!!!! Hope you make out ok.

That 8 hours may be book time but the job shouldn't take that much time. You could call around to specialty shops that advertize clutch jobs for $149(?), they will have the necessary experience. It's a bit of a pain if you have never done anything like this before. Here is Vfaq site, from there select "drivetrain" and then select the clutch removal. There are 2 listings plus clutch slave cylr replacement which will show lots of pictures from a variety of angles.

Letting it continue to leak could end up contaminating the clutch disk with oil which then will require replacement.

GTM
