Hi,

This might be a silly question but why does everyone from respectable tire installers to race teams leave the tire "information sticker" on the tire, even when they are mounting them on the car. When I worked at a car parts store, I would always take this sticker off and attach one to the sales reciept. Do they do this just so that they can organize them and keep them straight? I know it actually doesnt do anything for the tire, i just always wondered this.

I'd not seen this happening. Seems it'd be enough to interfere with balancing.

Agreed. When having my new tires mounted, I sat and watched them do it step by step, and the guy specifically told me that the stickers should be removed because they would throw off the balancing... Not that it matters now because the weights have since disappeared...

Hi,

Thanks for the responses, I thought everyone would be like what the hell kind of question is this, LOL. I was thinking that perhaps the tire sticker would effect the balance, espically since it is rotating at such a high speed. But the mass of the sticker is so small compared to the mass of the rest of the tire and wheel. I have found many pictures of tires that are mounted with the stickers on them, but then I thought maybe they put these stickers on temporarly after they balance them and before they mount them on the racecar. But then I found this picture on the internet and it looks to my like the tire carrier on the right hand side of the picture is holding a new tire with the sticker on it.

Thanks for your guys replies and stuff and keep them coming. Im not sure if I want to brush off my old dynamics text book and do the math on this. For anyone who knows anything about dynamics you would understand why this is, LOL.

Thanks,
Bill

I don't know if it'd affect balancing or not, but it is at the outermost periphery of the tread, and surely a 3x8 piece of heavy paper or vinyl with adhesive would show on a balancing machine at 50, no?
