ok i have one simple question. i just ordered a 800 watt rockfordfosgate amp and 2 400 watt 12"s and i have a 10 gauge amp install kit just sitting in my room and i was wondering if it will be ok to use a 10 gauge on it for a little while till i order some 4 gauge? it also hase a 25 amp fuse and fuse holder. will i have any problems with it? thanks

You'll be fine, using a smaller guage for the time being won't hurt anything....the amp just won't be playing to it's full potential, however, you may not even be able to hear the difference.

10ga is too small for 800 watts u'll be blowing fuses all day. get 4ga with 100amp fuse and u'll never have any problems

I agree 100%. 10 awg is way too small. Just wait and do it right and use 4 gauge. and at least a 40 or 50 amp fuse, I would think.

Where exactly do you get your info. from? Blowing a fuse has absolutey nothing to do with too small of guage of wire. If anything, the only concern with too small of wire would be the insulation melting...but even that has a near impossible chance with the given situation. And a 100 amp fuse on a 800w amp with 4awg wire?? Umm no. First off, if you even needed the current flow requiring a 100amp fuse, you should be using 1awg. wire (not 4awg.) but that's irrelevant being 1awg. wiring is no where near necessary on a 800w amp. Do you pull this stuff out of your ass or do you even have the smallest amount of experience in mobile audio?

Easy killer.

I have seen cases of inline type fuses blowing when people would put a massive monoblock amp with 10awg wire. It does happen.

And i think that 4 guage is pretty useful up to a gigwatt of power. After that, an average run of 12-13 feet of power wire is requring a bit more.

I had 4awg with a 150a ANL fuseholder taking care of a PG Ti Amp rated at close to 100a, and a 50a Alpine amp. Worked fine to me.

However, if this 800 watt amp is a true 800 watts rms, i think 4 gauge should be the way to go.

u kiddin me bro? small wire, small fuse, big amp=too much watts for too lil wire and amp fuse so it'll be blow with ease. i had a bd1000 rated at 1100 watts,4 gauge wire and 150 anl amp fuse and never blew a fuse. looks like your the one with shit audio knowledge jerkoff

If you go back and read my post, there was never any mention of using too small of a fuse dipshit. Can you tell me if I'll get wet if I jump into a pool also, captain obvious? If you have the right size fuse for the current draw..but too small of wire (as is the case) you're not going to blow the fuse. I aploogize for not originally mentioning that he would need a larger fuse. Like I said, only thing that could possibly happen is the wire insulation melts...but given the application, even that isn't going to happen. That and the fact that ofcourse the amp isn't going to be playing to it's full potnetial. But no harm to anything...which was the original question. You're right though, what do I know about car audio...I've only worked in the field since I was 17 and am MECP certified. :thumbdown

10ga wire isnt gonna be good for a 800w amp no matter what size fuse. its always gonna blow bc the wire is just too dam small for the power of the amp

10 ga will be fine. The current draw that is capible of traveling through the wire has no effect on the fuse size. You can put a 40 amp fuse in the 10 ga wire and I garantee that unless you max the gain out where it is surging it wont blow the fuse. Heck go to radioshack and get a circuit breaker and if it trips then reset it. I used a 10ga wire on a 900w amp for over a year. I never had problems unless I was maxing it out. then it would blow the fuse, but most of the time it was a 20-30 amp fuse. Try it, if it doesnt work, it doesnt work...
