Cap-rouge,
Sup guys, I need some advices for my car :p I have a 1995 eagle talon esi with 110k miles on it (190 000km). I decided to turbo it next summer but I am scared to blow everything up with a motor that is so used. Should I rebuilt it and get forged internal at the same time ? Should I swap a newer 420a ? My hp goal is 350hp and I want a strong and reliable setup.

Thanks much for your time guys.

ive seena few people turbo their motor when they have that many miles on it. best recommendation is to do a compression test and a leak down test. Have a shop do it and give you the results. If either test looks bad then I would rebuild before/while you turbo your motor or else you wont have a fun experience. If you do turbo your motor with that many miles on it, don't switch oils or else you will leak.

If you plan to rebuild, I would buy a kit from howell automotive.

Don't worry about the forged crankshaft, I heard you have to wait a while to warm up... As far as boost, It all depends on your fuel setup, injectors, SFMU or FMU or FPR...

Lots of variables here..

How Bore Size,Rod Bearing Size, Main bearing size and Rod Length affect my engine ?

Click the link I gave in my second post. They are giving many options about the things I listed above. I am just wondering what these customisations are affecting :p

Ok Should I :

-Rebuilb the engine and change the piston+cam
-Buy a short block
-Buy a new head
-Turbo it right away since my compression test was succesful (remember I have 110k miles)

IMO, I think you should do a rebuild on the bottom end with pistons/rods and then turbo it while it is down.... :thumb:

If it can help I did a compression test and here are the result :

Cylinder 1 : 160
Cylinder 2 : 160
Cylinder 3 : 160
Cylinder 4 : 160

Well the compression is kind of low But it is ok!
If I were you!
I will rebuild the bottom FIrst!, with low compression piston (or whatever you want).
After the rebuild Install a turbo setup.
Then, whatever is left!

Dude is not going to be easy. It is a long road to go! Just be patient and do it. SLOW BUT SECURE.

If u ask me Rebuild FIRST! (specially for the amount of Hp that you want to run, Stock block is up to 8 psi with intercooler and won't reach the Hp that you want to have!)
LAter,

JE 8.8:1 pistons and Crower Forged Rods........I have 155,000 miles on mine and thats what I've been told to do and thats what I'm going for. All new rings will be necessary as well. I hope to do cams sometime later along the way as well. But from what I've been told the main things that wear on the engine are the rods and pistons so replacing those should make the car go on forever .........ok not quite but it'll be the most beneficial

Ok thanks for the awnsers guys, but I changed my mind a lil. I think Ill just aim for 250hp and try to get the maximum reliability out of this setup. If you have any suggestion that could help me to keep a clean 250hp with a very reliable setup that would be great!
How long a professional shop need to do a bottom rebuild ? If my compression of 160 is low, what is the compression of the 420a when new ?

thanks again for your time!

BTW when you did the compression, was the engine cold or hot? If it was cold it explain why you have low numbers.
Follow this instruction:
http://www.dsmtuner.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76227

ya 160 is very low. mine has almost 75k miles, and when i did the compression test i did it cold at first on one cylinder and it read 185. then, the next day(long stupid story) i did all of them with it warm. the comp was now 200 on that cylinder. make sure the engine is warm so those rings can seal. my compression with 75k miles was 200-210-200-200. and thats after a little juice abuse.
